Announcements and Reminders

As a reminder next week is a short week for students, Monday, February 16, is Presidents Day holiday, therefore schools and offices will be closed.

Tuesday, February 17, is a teacher work day and there will be no school for students. This is also the Lunar New Year and the start of Ramadan which begins at sundown. See the complete school year calendar.


Criminal Justice Fundraiser

Support Criminal Justice students attending SkillsUSA competition by grabbing a meal at Chipotle!

  • When: Monday, March 2nd, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Where: Chipotle at 5955 Kingstowne Towne Ctr Ste 160, Alexandria, VA

  • How to Participate: Show the fundraiser flyer in the restaurant or order online for pickup using the code 27LH6AV.

This is a great way for parents and partners to support students as 25% of all event sales will be donated to Edison Academy's Criminal Justice program.

SkillsUSA Results

Over the last couple of weeks, students from various Edison Academy Program areas have been competing regionally for a chance to attend the SkillsUSA Virginia State Leadership and Skills Conference, March 9-11, 2026 in Virginia Beach, VA. The students below qualified for the State Conference with more to be added after the local competition on Tuesday, February 18. 

Crime Scene Investigation - Criminal Justice

1st Place goes to the team of Leena Alkhateeb (Edison HS), Nathaly Ramos-Interiano (Hayfield SS), Sophia Bonilla Solano (West Springfield HS). 

2nd Place goes to the team of Clara Jessica Keeton (West Springfield HS), Hanbee Chang (West Springfield HS), Bilen Fikre (West Springfield HS).

Traffic Stop - Criminal Justice

1st place goes to Greyy Van Ness (Edison HS)

We would also like to recognize Williams Manfuso (Hayfield SS) who also competed and placed 3rd overall, but will not be competing at the next level in this event.

1st Place goes to the team of Samuel Finnegan (West Potomac HS) and Eric Goering (Hayfield).

Residential Electrical Wiring - Electrical Construction

1st Place goes to Wilcox Wray (West Springfield HS).

2nd Place goes to Anthony Pinto Valenzuela (Mt. Vernon HS).

We would also like to recognize Jesus Abrego Diaz (Justice HS) who also competed and placed 5th overall, but will not be competing at the next level in this event.

Various Competition by HVAC-R Students

1st Place in SUAS Drone Competition goes to Luke Jacobs (West Springfield HS) and Carson Stewart (West Springfield HS).

1st Place in Career Pathways and in Chapter Display goes to Ceaser Fetzner (Mount Vernon HS).

1st Place in State T-Shirt Design Contest for the second year in a row goes to Mohammad Al-Towaiti (Bryant HS).

1st Place in Customer Service goes to Eduar Rueda Ramirez (Mount Vernon HS).

We would also like to recognize Makhi Hundley-Johnson (West Potomac HS) who also competed and placed 2nd overall, but will not be competing at the next level in this event.

HVAC Skills Contest Results

1st Place goes to Mohammad Al-Towaiti (Bryant HS).

2nd Place goes to Jeremy Ramos-Alvarez (West Springfield HS).

We would also like to recognize the other three students who placed in the top five but will not be competing at the next level in this event; Carson Stewart (West Springfield HS) placed 3rd, Colin McNamara (West Springfield HS) placed 4th, Luke Jacobs (West Springfield HS) placed 5th overall.

All of these students are fortunate to have the leadership and support of their teachers Joe Wolfe for Electrical Construction, Rob Stringham for HVAC-R, Augustine Arthur for Cyber Cisco, as well as Doug Dixon and John Kayajanian for Criminal Justice. Congratulations and good luck at state competition!

Ms. Hinkhouse is an FCPS CARES Recipient
