Good afternoon, Lorton Station families!
We are excited to celebrate our first full, regular school week in quite some time! It has been wonderful having students back into a consistent routine of teaching and learning. Students in many of our grade levels completed their Benchmark Assessments this week, and staff will share the results with parents by Wednesday of next week. Please continue to have your child spend a minimum of 20 minutes a day reading to you or with you daily to improve their comprehension and skills.
Classrooms also enjoyed Valentine’s Day celebrations filled with kindness, friendship, and joyful moments. Due to ice still covering portions of our playground, recess has remained indoors to ensure student safety. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to prioritize safe conditions for all students. Report cards were sent home this week; please take time to review them with your child and reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference.
- No School Monday and Tuesday next week

-
Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
-
Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.

Rooted in Resilience: Echoes of Excellence
Families and community members are invited to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and uplift the voices shaping our future at FCPS’ Second Annual Black History Month Celebration. Rooted in Resilience: Echoes of Excellence will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at 6 p.m., at Carter G. Woodson High School.
The event will honor the rich history, strength, and contributions of the Black community through inspiring student performances and a powerful keynote address by Rev. Vernon C. Walton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Vienna. Light refreshments will be available.
It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.
Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.
FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.
Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team? Share an FCPS CARES! Families, colleagues, and students are all invited to submit. The FCPS CARES is automatically sent to the recipient(s) and their supervisor, and is posted on fcps.edu. Additionally, each month one school in our region wins a staff celebration party from HR. Encourage your community to show our staff that their hard work is appreciated
