Kiss 'n' Ride

We will continue our alternate Kiss 'n' Ride arrival and dismissal procedures this week and hope that the sun and rise in temperature will melt the snow on Woodlawn St.  Thank you parents for your patience and cooperation!  You all are rock stars!

As a reminder:  Preschool parents who drop off their children at Door 1 in the AM, please follow the Kiss n' Ride ride line to enter the parking lot by Door 1.  If you arrive to pick up your child BEFORE 4:00pm at dismissal, you will be able to get to the school via Woodlawn St.

Thank you!

🐾Woodlawn Pause with Ms. Hill

Hello Woodlawn Families!

Enjoy this week’s Woodlawn Pause called UNDERWATER BREATH.

When we are in water, it reduces the effects of gravity, and our bodies float.  Water holds us and allows our bodies to flow gently and smoothly.

Our bodies have a lot of pressure on them each day—from the pull of gravity, from things we hold or carry—both physically and emotionally.

Giving our bodies a moment to glide and flow gracefully can help us to unwind stress and open our bodies to more peace and ease.

📚Book Fair and Book Fair Family Night in March

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair!

Woodlawn will host the Book Fair from Monday, March 2nd to Friday, March 6th. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

Book Fair Family Night will be held on Wednesday, March 4th in the Woodlawn cafeteria from 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

🧸 Kindergarten Registration and Orientation

⭐Our kindergarten orientation will take place on March 27th at 2:45 PM in the library at Woodlawn Elementary.  Please spread the word with families you know have a child who will be entering Kindergarten in August!

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events each school may host.

Read more about the registration process. For more information, contact our student information assistant/registrar, Beronica Martinez at 703-619-4800 or  bjmartinez@fcps.edu.

📵Help Keep Woodlawn Phone-Free!

Please remind your student that cell phones and personal devices (AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell). Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit FCPS’ cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call our front office at 703-619-4800.
