Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

Students and staff have enjoyed a nice return to school from Thanksgiving break. This week students in 6th grade have continued their research and writing about systems of government, 3rd grade students practiced phonics and parts of speech while discussing voting and 5th grade students were discussing the amendments to the Constitution. Today, the kindergarteners took a walking field trip to JMHS to enjoy the Tiny Tots concert as well.

Next week we will have more exciting events including the much-anticipated book fair! Students will browse the books on December 11th and 12th. The family shopping night will be held on Friday, December 12th from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Book shopping will continue the next week until December 16th.

Band, String and Chorus students will gather to share their winter concert with families on Thursday, December 11th at 7:00 pm. Performing students should plan to arrive at 6:30 pm to prepare for the show!

Don't forget that the next three-hour early release day will be next week on Wednesday, December 10th!

Kindly,

Mr. Montaquila, Principal

Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

FHES Book Fair Begins Next Week!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming next week…just in time for holiday shopping!

Students will browse the fair and create wish lists on Thursday and Friday, December 11 and 12, during regular school hours.

Our Family Event is on Friday, December 12, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm!

Students may purchase from the fair on Monday and Tuesday, December 15 and 16. The fair will be open during school hours on these days if any parents want to sneak in to shop as well!

Regular book fair purchases benefit the library. Look for information from your child’s teacher about helping build classroom libraries with eWallets and teacher wish lists.

You can set up eWallets on the book fair homepage. You can also purchase online and have the items shipped directly to your home.

Reminder: Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15, 2025

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time Advanced Academic Programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral to Stephanie Altounian (saaltounian@fcps.eduno later than December 15, 2025.

The window for families to submit a referral for Full-Time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for Full-Time Referrals are available on the AAP Forms PageNo late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for Full-Time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for Full-Time placement. Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Stephanie Altounian (saaltounian@fcps.edu).

Referrals for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP are screened at the local school. If you miss the December 15th deadline, your student can still be screened for Subject-Specific AAP or Part-Time AAP, and you may submit a referral for Full-Time AAP next fall.

For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs website

Help Us Write Flint Hill’s Next Chapter: Fiscal Year 2027 Budget

Budget graphic

There’s a story behind the success of every FCPS student — a story about what’s possible with the appropriate funding for world-class teachers, rigorous academics, and future-ready learning experiences. At FCPS, student success starts with a strong budget!

FCPS is currently developing the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, which is for the 2026-27 school year. In January, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will present a proposed budget to the School Board.

During this process, we’ll be sharing FCPS’ budget story with you. The different chapters will explain the impact of chronic underfunding, why strong funding benefits all of Fairfax County, what’s at stake when Flint Hill and other FCPS schools don’t get the support we need, and more.

We invite you to follow along and learn how you can help write our next chapter!

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.
