A Message from Principal Goldstein

Sam Goldstein

Dear Fairview Families,

What a wonderful first week back from the break we've had! We are so excited to have our Falcons back in the building!

We want to extend a sincere thank you to our talented students and to Mrs. Junttila and Mrs. Schermer for last night’s Winter Chorus Concert. Their performance was truly beautiful and showcased their hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and talent.

As temperatures continue to drop and we prepare for the possibility of significant winter weather, this is a gentle reminder to ensure your children come to school dressed warmly each day. We like to go outside as much as possible, and proper winter clothing helps ensure all students can participate safely. Please make sure to label your child’s winter clothing. Items with names in the lost and found will be returned to teachers.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Samantha Goldstein

Principal

Wednesday Three Hour Early Release-December 17

Hello Fairview Families! For the upcoming early release on Wednesday, December 17, your child will be dismissed using the indicated dismissal route in Pick Up Patrol. Therefore, please make sure to update Pickup Patrol for your child's dismissal plan for December 17th in order to ensure all students are dismissed correctly.

  • If you are requesting that your child stay until 3:55pm, you will need to select the: "Stay Early Release Wednesday 12/17/25 until 3:55" option in plan changes for December 17.
  • If you want your child to dismiss at 12:55pm, you may leave your child's default plan as is, or make a plan change and put "dismiss at 12:55pm" in the notes.

Please contact FairviewESCommunications@fcps.edu, for any questions.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

Winter GIFT CARD DRIVE

Fairview is Collecting Gift Cards for Families in Need.  As the holidays approach, some of our school families are facing significant hardships.  We have a unique opportunity to come together as a community and provide much-needed support and cheer during this time.  We are organizing a Holiday Support Program to provide gift cards and essential items to families in need.  Your voluntary contribution can make a significant impact and help brighten the season for our students and their families.

If you would like to donate a $25 or any amount gift card to Target, Walmart, or local grocery stores, please purchase a gift card and include the amount on the gift card.

Please ensure the gift cards are turned into the front office by December 12.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!

Lightspeed Parent Portal New Features

FCPS has introduced new parent controls in the Lightspeed Parent Portal to help families manage screen time on FCPS-issued devices. Through the portal, parents can control their child's access to YouTube and pause web browsing during designated After-School Hours while students are off the FCPS network.

These controls are active Monday - Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:00 AM (even on student holidays) and all day Saturday and Sunday. They do not affect district filtering policies during the instructional day.

Parents can register for the Lightspeed Parent Portal using the link provided in their weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.

For more information about the Parent Portal, please visit the Lightspeed Parent Portal page on the FCPS website.

Last Call for Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. We have provided paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE and sent them home in Wednesday Folders.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Register for ParentVUE

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or submitting the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type “Federal Impact Aid Survey” in the Issue Description section. You may also call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).

AAP Family Night Information Slides

Slides from AAP Family Information Night are now available on the Fairview AAP website. You will also find links to Subject Specific, Part Time and Full Time to referral forms there.

Full-Time AAP Services Eligibility

Decisions for AAP Full-Time services are made by a countywide central screening committee. There are specific screening cycles for Full-Time services:

  • Spring Screening: The deadline to refer 2nd – 6th graders for spring screening is December 15. Please submit this form to Alisa Pappas

Important: Please do not wait for ability test scores before submitting a referral for your child in Grades 2-7. Referrals submitted after the deadlines will not be accepted. These referrals can also be found in many languages on the FCPS AAP Website.

Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels

Due to the overwhelming response, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check that includes fingerprinting).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal confirmation that you have no history of violent felonies, or crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude (dishonesty, fraud, things that are immoral by society’s standards).

Visit the Volunteer FCPS website to complete a volunteer orientation. View Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
