Dear Hybla Valley Families,
As we move into this season of gratitude, we want to take a moment to share how truly thankful we are for our strong and caring Hybla Valley community. Each day, we see students supporting one another, families partnering with us, and staff working tirelessly to ensure our school remains a place where children feel safe, inspired, and ready to learn. For all of this, we are deeply grateful.
We are excited for our upcoming Cozy Up With Curriculum Family Night on Thursday, December 4. This special event is a wonderful opportunity for families to connect, learn together, and enjoy time as a community. We hope to see you there—comfy attire encouraged for adults and it will be a pajama night for the kids!
As a reminder, schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday, November 26–28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We wish all of our families a peaceful, restful break filled with loved ones, gratitude, and moments of joy.
When we return on Monday, December 1, we’ll enter a three-week stretch of important, focused learning before Winter Break. It is crucial that students are present during these weeks so they can fully engage in instruction, continue building essential skills, and finish the calendar year strong.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to support our students. We are grateful for each and every member of the Hybla Valley community.
Warmly,
Hybla Valley Elementary School Administration
Snuggly, cozy, and ready to learn! Mr. Elvira-Contreras’s 3rd graders rocked Pajama Day in the cutest way. 💫💤📚
🌙 Dreaming big and learning cozy—pajama day with Ms. Deaton’s 6th graders!
On Thursday, November 20, 2025, we surprised our Hybla Valley Huskies with a special, brief Financial Literacy lesson from Truist Bank, along with a brand-new pair of shoes and socks from Samaritan's Feet International. Samaritan's Feet is a humanitarian-aid organization that brings hope and healing through the gift of shoes to those in need around the world.
It was truly wonderful to see our students engaging with the many volunteers and the joy on their faces as they received their new shoes. We are incredibly grateful for these meaningful community partnerships that support our students both inside and outside the classroom.
Here are a few photos capturing the excitement from the event!
We are so thankful to the 70+ volunteers from Truist Bank and Samaritan's Feet International for making this event a success for our students!

Hybla Valley Students and Families,
Please join us on Thursday, December 4th, for our Cozy Up With Curriculum Night from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. There will be Literacy and Math Activities, Games, Cookies, and Hot Cocoa. Students are encouraged to come in their pajamas!
We kindly ask that any outside food from restaurants (such as McDonald’s, Chipotle, etc.) brought in for students be eaten in the school office rather than in the cafeteria. Students are welcome to bring a friend with them to enjoy their meal. This practice helps us reduce food sharing and ensures the safety of all students, particularly those with food allergies.
Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our students safe and healthy.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is eligible for federal Impact Aid grants due to the federal presence in our area. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget. They are critical to ensuring that students receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $4,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.
FCPS uses the survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students. In October, the survey will be made available to FCPS families. The survey is available online through ParentVue. Families without ParentVUE can request a paper copy of the survey from their child's school. FCPS staff will process the information with the utmost confidentiality.
Below are the visual steps for a parent to get to the survey in SIS ParentVue.
Here is a video link with more information about Impact Aid:
https://www.fcps.edu/impact
Use of Impact Aid Funds:
Federal Impact Aid provides revenue to local education agencies to mitigate costs of educating children in areas impacted by federal activity. The Impact Aid policy was designed to compensate local school districts for the local funding share that is reduced or eliminated because of a Federal presence that is not taxable. School districts with federal lands, military installations, federal low-rent housing or Indian Trust land within their boundaries lose local revenues. Impact Aid is designed to compensate school districts for this lost revenue. Impact Aid goes into the general fund and is intended to offset the costs (e.g. staff, facilities, and transportation) associated with educating military dependent children and other special groups.
We’d like to give a special shout-out to our Family Liaisons, Esmeralda Servin and Beatriz Cueva! They play a vital role in strengthening the partnership between our families and school. We are so grateful for their dedication and all that they do to support our Hybla Valley community!

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a comprehensive Family Life Education (FLE) program. FLE instruction begins in kindergarten and continues through grade 12. FLE includes topics in human growth and development and social and emotional health. FLE instruction helps students gain knowledge and skills needed to make healthy, responsible, and life-enhancing decisions related to relationships and their physical, emotional, and social health. Parents and guardians are partners in their child’s learning. FLE instruction supports the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents and guardians can review FLE materials. Parents/guardians can access FLE lessons in Schoology using their SIS username and password. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media titles online. Lessons and media are available for review at your child’s school. Lessons only are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media).
To foster respect for family choices, parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. A student who is opted out will receive alternative health instruction. To opt your child out of all or part of the FLE program for this school year, please complete the digital opt-out form. If you cannot access the digital opt-out form, contact your child’s school to request a printed form. You do not need to complete the opt-out form, digital or printed, if you wish for your child to take part in FLE instruction.
FLE program descriptions are available on the FCPS website.
For information about when FLE instruction will take place, please contact your child’s teacher or school. For questions about the FLE program, please contact Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or email fle@fcps.edu.
Hybla Valley Elementary will hold an FLE information meeting for parents and families sometime in late January / early February. We will let you know when we finalize the date and time.
FLE lessons at Hybla Valley Elementary will take place during the week of March 23 through March 27. This is the week before Spring Break.
Families can preview the content for the K-12 FLE lessons by going to their school's parents/guardians group and clicking on "FLE Content for Parents with K-12 Students 2025-2026.
Earlier this morning, our PreK was rocking and rolling at a fun-filled family event! We had over 40 parents and family members in attendance! Our Family Meeting focused on Building Community and Creating Routines and then we “crafted” away making Turkey Headbands!
A huge thank you to our Family Liaisons, Esmeralda and Beatriz for supporting all the logistics involved to make this meeting a success. 😊 Another big thank you to Grace Winslow, our Family Services Specialist and our PreK teaching team for putting on this wonderful event today.
The next PreK meeting in January will discuss Literacy and celebrate winter with a first ever PreK Winter Concert.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.
