Book Character Day!

Book Character Day

A Message from Principal Goldstein

Sam Goldstein

Dear Fairview Families,

Today marks the end of the first quarter of the school year! We are so proud of our students' hard work and progress. The end of the quarter is a moment to recognize our Falcons achievements and also a chance for everyone—students, families, and staff—to reflect, celebrate strengths, and set clear goals for the next phase of learning.

As a reminder, Monday, November 3rd, and Tuesday, November 4th, are student holidays. School staff will be engaged in planning and professional development on these days. School will resume on Wednesday, November 5th. We look forward to seeing our students back on Wednesday to begin a strong second quarter.

Enjoy the extended weekend!

Samantha Goldstein

Calling All Military Speakers!

Fairview is proud to honor those who serve our country. Following the Veterans Day Breakfast, we invite parents and/or family members who are currently serving or have served in the military to speak with our students.

Speakers will visit a classroom of their choice to share about their role and experiences in the military for about 10-15 minutes. These conversations help students learn more about what it means to serve our nation — in a way that’s age-appropriate and kid-friendly.

Join us in inspiring and educating our students this Veterans Day!

AAP Family Night Information Slides

Slides from AAP Family Information Night are now available on the Fairview AAP website. You will also find links to Subject Specific, Part Time and Full Time to referral forms there.

Full-Time AAP Services Eligibility

Decisions for AAP Full-Time services are made by a countywide central screening committee. There are specific screening cycles for Full-Time services:

  • Spring Screening: The deadline to refer 2nd – 6th graders for spring screening is December 15. Please submit this form to Alisa Pappas

Important: Please do not wait for ability test scores before submitting a referral for your child in Grades 2-7. Referrals submitted after the deadlines will not be accepted. These referrals can also be found in many languages on the FCPS AAP Website.

For Fairview ES families in need of resources in our community:

For assistance with meeting basic needs, please contact Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at: 703-222-0880 or visit their website at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/neighborhood-community-services/coordinated-services-planning
CSP provides information, referral, linkage, and advocacy to public and private human services available to Fairfax County residents. Through partnerships with community-based organizations and other Fairfax County agencies, CSP assists callers with the following services: basic needs, financial assistance, health care services, and referrals to services and resources.

Attention all Volunteers/Room Parents/Field Trip Volunteers

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS at Fairview, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.

Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.

These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.

We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit [Volunteer FCPS], click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.

Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.

We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.

As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.

Volunteer FCPS Program Update

We’re excited to share that over 140 volunteers have already signed up to support our school through the new FCPS Volunteer Program — and 38 have already completed the process!

If you initially applied for Level 1 or 2 and would like to volunteer for a field trip, you can log back into your account, change your application to Level 3, and resubmit.

If you’ve applied for Level 3, please note that final approval may take 6–8 weeks from the county. However, you can still volunteer at school and on field trips while your application is pending or if you’re still completing the steps.

If you have any questions about your Volunteer Application, please reach out to our Family Liaison, Laura Leonetti, at Lkleonetti@fcps.edu or 571-595-0843.

Thank you to all our incredible volunteers for your patience and support as we implement this new process!

Services for Hearing-Impaired and Visually-Impaired Students

Students with sensory disabilities require special services and support to access instruction that is typically presented auditorily (by means of hearing) and visually. FCPS provides educational services to students who are deaf, hearing-impaired, or visually impaired. They are supported in various settings, including at their school site or through itinerant specialists who travel to different schools to work with students, rather than being based in a single school. Learn more about Services for Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and Services for Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired.

The Virginia Department of Education also provides information about Additional Resources for Serving Students with Sensory Disabilities.
