End of the Quarter

🎃 Friday, October 31, is the last day of the first quarter, and a two-hour early release for students so please plan accordingly.

Here are important changes for the day:

  • Our AM and midday shuttles (periods 1 and 3) will run at normally scheduled times
  • There will be NO AM shuttle for Annandale, Lake Braddock or West Springfield
  • There will be NO shuttles for our PM classes (period 5)
  • Non-Edison students in Cosmetology should not report to their academy class

If your school is having an altered schedule on this date and a period 1 or 3 student elects to remain at their base school,

  • the student should email their Academy teacher to inform them they are remaining at their base school due to an altered schedule.
  • A parent/guardian must also report their child’s absence.  They can do this one of three ways:
    1. parent calls our attendance line at 703-924-8137 to report the absence,
    2. the parent sends an email to edisonacademy.attendance@fcps.edu.  Students enrolled with us in period 5 classes are not required to have their parent/guardian contact our attendance line,
    3. Use ParentVue to report a student's all-day absence.

Level one students in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning along with Electrical Construction and Engineering are currently preparing for their OSHA-10 Certification (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).

This week, they participated in an on-site safety observation as part of their OSHA 10 Construction Industry “Struck-By and Caught-Between Hazards” module. They observed an active construction site where new townhomes are being built near Edison Academy.

The visit provided a firsthand look at site clearing and utility disconnection in progress. Students observed crews from KC Johnson and Kesterson AC & Plumbing (Mount Vernon) as they performed gas-line shutdowns and service disconnects while heavy equipment prepared the area.

During the training, students identified and discussed swing-radius hazards, equipment visibility, and safe-zone procedures used to prevent struck-by or caught-between incidents. This real-world experience reinforced classroom learning on construction-site awareness, PPE requirements, and hazard communication, all of which are helping students connect OSHA concepts directly to what they’ll encounter in the field.
