New Principal Hiring Process

09/25/2025 Sent on behalf of Mr. Ray Lonnett, Assistant Superintendent, Region 3 On behalf of Region 3, we extend our sincere congratulations to Ms. Laxton on her recent appointment to Carl Sandburg Middle School. We appreciate her dedicated service to the Fort Belvoir Upper community. While we will miss Ms. Laxton, we are pleased to announce that, beginning September 29th, Ms. Kathleen Quigley will serve as the interim principal at Fort Belvoir Upper School. Ms. Quigley brings extensive experience and a strong dedication to FCPS, with 34 years of experience as both a teacher and administrator. Since retiring as principal of Franklin Sherman Elementary School, she has continued to serve FCPS in an interim capacity at multiple schools, providing leadership and stability during periods of transition. She holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Education from The College of William and Mary and a certification as an Education Specialist from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. With her extensive background, Ms. Quigley is well-prepared to lead Fort Belvoir Upper during this transitional period. We would like to invite parents, staff, and community members to a virtual meeting regarding the principal selection process. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in serving as a panelist for principal interviews, please submit your information on the Google Interest form. The Region 3 Leadership Team will review all submissions and select staff and community members to serve as either panelists or alternates for these interviews. The Department of Human Resources will contact the individuals who are selected to serve in this capacity.
