PTSO Meeting

Our first PTSO meeting is tonight, September 16th at 7 PM! Please join us to hear from our Principal, Mr. Greata, and the PTSO about upcoming events, fundraising efforts, and other important Woodson information. Our first meeting will be in person in the Woodson Library. Meetings are typically 30 minutes, but our first meeting may run a little longer as we get settled into the new school year.

Woodson High School PTSO Grant Application Opens September 17th

Submission Deadline: October 3rd, 2025

You can access the grant application here (NOTE: The application link will open on the evening of September 17th). The Woodson PTSO Grant Program is open to students and teachers seeking funding for projects that benefit the Woodson High School community. All applications must be reviewed or discussed with a Woodson teacher, club sponsor, or department head prior to submission. Our grants are funded through PTSO memberships and donations from our school community. While we aim to support as many initiatives as possible, the amount awarded depends on the current PTSO budget.

September 19th is the Woodson Theater Department's annual Woodson/ Frost Cabaret! Come support current and future Woodson Drama students and be entertained by a night of singing, dancing and theater. The show begins in the Woodson auditorium at 7pm, and admission is "Pay What You Can". We hope to see you there!

Woodson Boys Volleyball

Last week on Tuesday, Woodson faced off against West Springfield in an away game. Despite the loss, several players stood out. Isaac McConkie had fifteen assists, Ethan Nguyen had two aces, fifteen digs, and an excellent serve receive, while Tucker Johnson was everywhere with his hustle and ten digs. Tommy Quigley had four attacks and four kills without an error, and Stanley Lin had an impressive serve receive. The team’s serving improved to 89% within that game! Notable performances from Stanley Lee, Ethan Nguyen, Steven Ngo, Ravver Vita, and Cayden Lee with no serve error. Then on Thursday, Woodson bounced back and swept Lake Braddock with a 3-0 victory at home. Ethan Nguyen led with over twenty serve receives, while Richard Song and Isaac McConkie had unbelievable serving streaks. Along with, Willem Warwig and Tommy Quigley who had outstanding blocks.  This week the Cavs are back at home on Tuesday vs West Potomac and travel to Alexandria City on Thursday, both games starting at 6:30PM.

 


 

Woodson Cross Country

Cross Country started the season at Burke Lake at the Monroe Parker Invitational.  Girls Varsity and JV teams both finished 2nd overall, Boys Varsity placed 8 and the Boys JV team came in 3rd.  Christian Kelly, Charlie Penton, and Noah Leahy placed in the top 20.  Carleigh Devlin, Charlotte Conklin, Audrey Indyk, Lien Nguyen, Payton Farrel, Keira Arenholtz, Hadley Vanek, and Madeline Grant all placed top 10 in their events.

Wednesday Athletes headed to Burke Lake to complete.  Girls came in 2nd overall and the boys were 3rd.  Christopher Ching, Hudson Horn, Marie Sholber and Shannon Close had great times.

Saturday the team competed in the Lake Braddock Relays.  Athletes competed in several 2500 m heats.  Congratulations to Jonathan Cheney, Jackson Argentina, Devin Rade Vivienne Munger, Jeanne McKernan, Lila DeVito, Isabella Cesaro, Emily Pan, Misheel Batsakihan, Kailyn Blackford,  Anna Taylor, Lien Nguyen, Marie Sohlberg, Claire Delaney, Anastasia DeCarlo, Audrey Indyk and Scarlett Abasolo for placing top 15 in their events. The Girls Relay Teams came in 1st and 4th and the Boys Relay teams were 7th and 19th.  Congratulations to all the athletes who completed.

The Woodson Math Center opens on Tuesday, September 2nd. Students can come by B208 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00 - 3:45 pm to receive free peer math tutoring. Snacks will be provided!
