Message from Ms. Salata

Dear Clermont Families,

What a truly wonderful start we've had to the school year! We've seen so many smiling faces in the hallways and classrooms, and it's been a joy watching our students reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

This week, our teachers have been hard at work administering our beginning-of-the-year screeners in reading and math. This screening process will continue for the next few weeks. These tools help us understand each student’s unique strengths and needs so we can provide the best possible support and instruction throughout the year.

I know that the topic of school safety, particularly in light of recent tragic events like the school shootings in Minneapolis and Colorado, can feel heavy and create worry. Please know that student safety is always at the forefront of our minds and is at the core of our daily practices. We have recently practiced our lockdown drill, and will conduct a fire drill, bus evacuation drill, and tornado drill in the near future. We practice these drills not to scare anyone but to ensure that both our students and staff are prepared and know exactly what to do in a wide range of situations. Our goal is to empower everyone to be ready and responsive, making our school a secure and calm environment for learning and growing.

Thank you for your partnership in making Clermont Elementary a truly special place, where kind words, kind thoughts, and kind actions are the foundation of all we do.

Warmly,

Ms. Salata and Mrs. Younger

Color the World With Kindness

world

At Clermont this year, our focus is on spreading kindness. Our art teacher, Ms. Deveney, worked with the students in grades 1-6 to create our beautiful mural. We want our students to show kindness every day through their words, thoughts, and actions.

Courtyard Clean-up

We are looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to help beautify our enclosed courtyard near the library. If you are interested in helping, please email Mrs. Younger at tryounger@fcps.edu.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Weeding & mulching

  • Picking up litter
  • Trimming bushes & clearing debris

Blacktop Beautification

student

Former Clermont student, Leila B., spent 50 hours this summer planning and painting our blacktop to bring a positive change to the playground area! We are so grateful for Leila’s effort and congratulate her on earning her Girl Scout Silver Award by completing this amazing beautification project!

Book Fair is Coming

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

Clermont Elementary's Bookworm Central Book Fair will be held in person from October 6 - 10th. Help is needed in preparing for the fair and throughout the week it is open. Please consider volunteering your time by helping to advertise, decorate, set up, work at the fair during school hours, work after school during our late night (before PTA STEM night), and help to pack up.

Please feel free to sign up to volunteer for an hour, a couple of hours, or for the entire week. Whatever works for you! The book fair is a lot of fun and is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities. We appreciate your time and efforts. We look forward to working with you! Kannan Cangro (Librarian) Questions? Social & Emotional Screener

Counselor Cares

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students.  In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school.

Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring.  Fall screening will be administered between October 6-31.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account.  For more information about the SEL Screener, including information on opting out, please see the attached Parent Notification.  You can also learn more on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage

Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind logo

Hey Clermont!

 Do you like to write?

Do you like to sing?

Do you like to create things out of cardboard?

Do you play an instrument?

Do you like collaborating with friends?

Are you ready for an AMAZING creative adventure?

Odyssey of the Mind is a one-of-a-kind creative problem-solving program for K-12 students sponsored by the Clermont PTA. From October to March, teams work to solve a long-term problem, then present their solutions at a regional competition. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. Each team develops their own unique solution and do ALL the work themselves, encouraged by parent coaches. There is a weekly commitment on a day and time that the team agrees upon. You’ll find more information at https://odysseyofthemind.com/

Confused: Still confused what OOTM is? Check out last year’s Clermont award-wining team here who made it to the World Championship! Team C-Bug Video

Next steps: We will form teams within the next few weeks. New to Odyssey and ready to dive in? Returning OMer? The deadline to register is Friday, October 3rd. Sign up here: 2025-2026 OOTM Form.

***Please note that the number of teams we are able to assemble is ENTIRELY dependent upon having enough parents willing to coach.***

Interested? Any questions, please contact Jennifer Jones, the Clermont OOTM Coordinator at ClermontOOTM@gmail.com.
