Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
The second week of the school year has come to a close and I hope all of our Flint Hill families enjoy a restful Labor Day holiday.
Tonight, I hope you will join us at the JMHS County Fair! Mr. Montaquila will be in the splash tower, so this is your chance to dunk the principal!
There is still time to share gently used spirit wear for the Madison Pyramid Spirit Wear Collection. All donations will help ensure all students can show their school pride and donors will receive a cookie coupon Chic-Fil-A.
Orders for new spirit wear can still be placed! The PTA is accepting orders until September 17th. Be sure to check out the new styles and items available in the message and links below.
Please note the following change! Due to a scheduling conflict with Thoreau Middle School, the date for the Flint Hill ES Back-to-School Night has been changed to Wednesday, September 17th from 5:30-7:00 pm!
Welcome back Falcons!
Kindly,
Mr. Montaquila, Principal
Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal
Flint Hill ES will be accepting donations of gently used spirit wear (from any FCPS school) that can be shared with others.
Bring your donations to FHES through 9/3/25 and receive a certificate for a cookie at Chic-Fil-A Vienna on 9/8/25.
Flint Hill Families! Your energy and enthusiasm power our school community, and we excited to welcome you into our classrooms, field trips, and more!
SAFETY FIRST: BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED!
To ensure the safety of our students, recurring volunteers and chaperones will need a completed background check and fingerprinting on file with FCPS before joining the fun! This includes:
- Classroom helpers
- Field trip chaperones
- And more!
*One-time large event volunteers are not required to complete the extended clearance process but are still expected to scan their identification at the FHES Visitor Management System to be cleared against the Sex Offender Registry.
*If you may volunteer several times a year, please consider completing the FCPS background check process.
Ready to get cleared? Visit the FCPS Volunteer Page or connect with Ms. Aranibar in our main office. Please be patient as our county processes requests from 140+ schools!

Order Deadline: September 17, 2025
Please use the routes and locations marked below for arrival and dismissal.
Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:35 am to ensure their safety and supervision. Students should be in their classroom when the second bell rings at 8:50 am.
We begin our dismissal process at 3:30 pm and all students are on their way home no later than 3:35 pm. Crossing guards will be located at the corners of Flint Hill Rd/Vale Rd. as well as on Flint Hill Road near the SACC entrance.
Parents who wish to pick up their children by car should use the Kiss and Ride lane (marked with purple arrows) that is located on the curb by the parking lot entrance near the gym.
The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October.
Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit FCPS’ Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

Starting in September, FCPS elementary schools will use the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Math assessment to assess grade level mathematics skills in grades 1-6. The MAP Math test along with the iReady Reading test fulfill a state requirement to measure academic growth in grades 3-6 throughout the school year.
MAP Math tests are administered in the fall, winter, and spring. They help teachers identify students' strengths and areas where they may need more support.
Families can learn more about MAP Growth assessments by visiting the MAP Test Information webpage.

To support a focused and distraction-free learning environment, students must keep their phones off and personally stored (for example, in backpacks) from the first bell to the last bell of the school day. This includes all cell phone accessories such as AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and any other items connected to the phone, which also must be off and put away during times when phone use is prohibited.
Smartwatches may be worn; however, any phone functions (such as texting, internet access, phone calls, etc.) must be disabled during the entire school day. Additionally, for safety and privacy reasons, students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, or other mobile devices in restrooms unless there is an emergency or explicit staff permission.
Should you need to get in contact with your child during the school day, you can call our main office at 703-242-6100.
FCPS is committed to ensuring every student has access to an education free from distractions caused by cell phones. Please ensure you and your child have reviewed the SY 25-26 Student Rights & Responsibilities Family Guide which outlines acceptable use policies on the FCPS network and the expectations regarding cell phone and accessory use. Use of cell phones or accessories outside the guidelines of this policy is a violation of student disciplinary rules.
We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment for all students. Should you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to contact the school office.

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.
Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.

Support Your Child’s Success
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Caregivers should receive an activation code when they register their child.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.
Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Available
|
According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.
Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage
Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

Make sure your child has all of their required immunizations before the first day of school. Check their immunization records to see what they might be missing. You can:
- Request immunization records online through the Virginia Immunization Information System (a free service).
- Get records from other states’ systems if your child was immunized outside of Virginia.
- Request records from your health care provider. Some may charge for copies.
Review school-required immunizations to verify that your child is up to date.
You may wish to read FCPS messages in a language other than English. There are several ways you can receive or view our communications in a different language.
FCPS This Week is distributed in other languages to parents/guardians who have filled out the Home Language Survey form and selected a language supported by FCPS as their preferred language for communication. Home Language Survey forms are available in the following languages: Amharic | Arabic (العربية) | Chinese (中文) | Farsi (فارسی) | Korean (한국어) | Spanish (español) | Urdu (اردو) | Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt).
Learn more about other communications that are translated.
Paperless Opt-Outs Available!
As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE. Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there. Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.
