🎉🦁We ROARED at our Open House Jam!!

August 15, 2025
Welcome Back Fairfax Families! Our Epic Journey Begins!
The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here! This Monday, the halls of Fairfax High School will once again be filled with the energy and excitement of our students. The staff and I are incredibly excited to welcome you back for what promises to be a truly epic year.
This past week, our amazing staff has been preparing for your return and getting everything ready for a smooth and successful start. We were also thrilled to see so many of you join us for our kickoff events. We hosted a fantastic Sophomore Night, a successful New Student Orientation, and our electrifying "Fear the Roar" Open House Jam. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome over a thousand Lions into our building for a sneak peek of the year to come.
As we begin this new academic chapter, we look forward to partnering with our students and families every step of the way as we navigate all things high school together. This year we want to guarantee our students are connected to our community, deepening their educational opportunities, and embracing the transformational experiences that high school provides.
See you Monday!

📱Cell Phone Policy Update - Important!
As we get ready for the first day of school on Monday, August 18, we are sharing an important update about the FCPS’ cell phone policy.
Starting this school year, cell phones and personal devices (air pods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) with the exception of lunch time in designated lunch spaces. Cell phones and personal devices can no longer be used during passing periods, which is a change from FCPS’ previous cell phone policy. In addition, cell phones are no longer permitted to be used as an instructional tool (across all grades).
Phones and other personal devices can be stored in a locker or backpack during the day. This policy helps strengthen engagement, learning, and positive social behavior in the classroom. If you need to reach your student during the school day, please call our front office at 703-219-2200.
You can support your student by talking with them about the cell phone policy and reminding them that cell phones and personal devices may only be used during lunch time in designated lunch spaces. Thank you for working with us to set expectations for your student.
Students who require access to personally owned devices as an accommodation, as documented in their 504 plan or individualized education program (IEP), will continue to have access. If parents/guardians, multi-disciplinary team members, or other persons with knowledge of a student, believe a student requires access to personally owned devices as an accommodation, they shall make the requests for such accommodations through their respective multi-disciplinary team (i.e., 504 Committee, IEP Team, English Language Committee, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support [MTSS] Team). More information can be found in the SY 25-26 Student Rights & Responsibilities Family Guide, specifically on page 24.

📝Important Permissions Needed
Complete Permission Forms Today
Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Opt your child in or out of online educational tools and choose how student information is managed. Visit FCPS’ Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.
🍕 Student ID Number Needed for School Meals
New This Year!
Starting this school year, students will enter their student ID number — not their current cafeteria PIN — at the cash register to receive school meals. Please remind your child of their student ID number, which you can find in SIS ParentVUE. View more updates and reminders for school meals this year.

📋 and FCPS Back to School Checklist here...
As summer winds down, we are looking forward to welcoming students back to our classrooms. Please review this checklist to make sure your child is ready!
☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Contact our registrar at [email/phone number] if you need an activation code. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information! Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) in the Parent/Guardian section of SIS ParentVUE.
☑️ Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meal benefits.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked with a blue “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked with an orange “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
Security Screening Reminders
In our latest effort to strengthen our layered safety and security programs, FCPS piloted a weapon screening system across our high schools last spring. This weapon screening system will be expanded to all middle and high schools this fall.

At Fairfax HS, we wanted to remind our students that Open Gate screening will occur daily. The following items should be removed from bags to prevent false readings:
- Lunch boxes
- Laptops
- Binders
- Pencil Cases
- Glasses Cases
- Umbrellas
Learn more on the weapons detection frequently asked questions page. Thank you for your help and cooperation!

🎓Calling All Senior Parents!!! Class of 2026 All Night Grade Needs YOU
All Night Grad (ANG) is one of the most exciting traditions at Fairfax High School — a safe, fun, and unforgettable night for our seniors to celebrate with their classmates. Held at a local off-campus venue, this late-night event runs from graduation night until the early morning hours, packed with games, prizes, music, food, and more!
But here’s the thing — we can’t make this night happen without YOU.
ANG takes a dedicated team of volunteers to plan, organize, and staff the event. Ideally, a Committee Chair is in place before the school year ends — but we still need someone to step up! Planning must begin ASAP to keep this event on track.
Without a Committee Chair, this beloved tradition will not happen!
We’re calling on Senior Parents to help lead the charge — lets create one last magical memory for our graduates. Parents of underclassmen are welcome to help too! The more hands, the better.
✨ Let’s come together and send our seniors off in style! ✨

Let’s make ANG 2026 the best one yet!
🚌 Become a Crossing Guard with FCPS!
Dependable and caring adults are needed to serve as crossing guards, helping students safely bike and walk to and from our schools. This is a great opportunity for retirees, stay-at-home parents, or anyone looking to make a difference in their community. Crossing guards will earn $16.50 per hour and receive bonus time: Work 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after school for a total of one hour a day and earn $33.00.
The Fairfax County Police Department has engaged a company, ACMS, to recruit crossing guards. Please visit their website to learn more and apply.
📑 Varsity Tutors Provides On-Demand Support at No Cost
Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors’ services at no cost, including weekly live online classes; on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring; essay editing; and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests. Learn more about online tutoring with Varsity Tutors.
