Welcome Back, Fairhill Families!
This is the same Fairhill Forum as sent yesterday, August 5th, with one important correction: Back to School Night will take place on Wednesday, September 17th, not the original date listed. We apologize for the confusion and appreciate your understanding.
Dear Fairhill Families,
We are so excited to kick off another incredible school year with our Tiger community! As we step into a new year of learning and growth, we remain grounded in the values that make Fairhill such a special place: Relationships, Rigorous Instruction, and Connections to the Community.
At Fairhill, we believe strong relationships are the foundation for student success. Whether it’s between teachers and students, families and staff, or classmates supporting each other — we know that trust and care make all the difference.
We are also committed to providing rigorous, engaging instruction that challenges each student while nurturing their unique strengths. Our dedicated team is already hard at work creating meaningful learning experiences that will inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning.
And finally, we recognize that we are strongest when we are connected. This year, we look forward to deepening our partnerships with families and the greater community to ensure every child thrives — both in and out of the classroom.
Thank you for being part of the Fairhill family. Let’s make this year one to remember!
With Tiger Pride,
Ted Cooper, Principal
Maura Cotter, Assistant Principal

What’s What at Fairhill: Events and Opportunities to Connect
As we kick off a new school year, here’s a quick guide to a few important events that help build strong home-school connections:
Fairhill Bus Tour - Wednesday, August 13th 2pm - 4pm
This is one of our favorite traditions! Fairhill staff and teachers hop on a bus and visit four designated stops in the community to greet families, hand out popsicles, and say hello. It’s a fun, informal way to connect with students before the year begins. All students are welcome — check the times and stops below!
Open House - -Friday, August 15th 10am - 11:30am
Our Open House is a time when the school is open for students and families to drop off supplies, briefly visit the classroom, and meet the teacher. It’s a casual event, and most families stay for about 10–15 minutes. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend — it’s a great way to help students feel ready for the first day!
Back to School Night (BTSN) - Wednesday, September 17th 5:30pm - 7pm CORRECTION DATE AND TIME
Back to School Night is a more formal evening designed just for parents. Teachers present important information about the curriculum, classroom routines, expectations, and how to support learning at home. Each session lasts about 20 minutes per class. If you have children in multiple grade levels, you’ll have the opportunity to visit each of their teachers.
Parent-Teacher Conferences These are dedicated times to meet one-on-one with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss their progress and any specific needs or goals. Every student will have a scheduled conference by Thanksgiving, but families are welcome to request a conference at any point in the year if a topic requires more attention than a phone call or email can provide. Conferences are traditionally attended by parents only.
STAFF SCHOOL BUS TOUR
On Wednesday, August 13th, Fairhill hits the road with our tradition of the Community Bus Tour. Our staff will take the bus to the following stops in our neighborhoods, and we hope you and your students will join us for popsicles and a quick hello and meet your child’s teacher!
Stop 1: 2:10 PM
- Ellenwood & Barrick: Park on Covington Street between Suede Court and Bowler Drive
Stop 2: 2:30 PM
- Stonehurst: Intersection of Stonehurst Drive and Annhurst Street
Stop 3: 2:50 PM
- Dunn Loring Village: Intersection of Grovemore Lane and Dellway Lane
Stop 4: 3:10 PM
- Mosaic: Strawberry Park; grassy area on Strawberry Lane in front of Ted’s Bulletin

Help Us Erase Student Lunch Debt
Please consider donating to eliminate school lunch debt through our Educate Fairfax platform. All donations are tax deductible; you will receive a receipt for tax deduction purposes.
CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS: HELP TO MAKE BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY
The Fairhill PTA again will continue to support Fairhill families and our broader local community by collecting unused food purchased from the cafeteria (e.g., milk, string cheese) and/or unopened store bought food (e.g., crackers) during the spring semester
Our kids' role -> Kids are asked to leave food they may otherwise toss in the garbage and instead put it off in the Food for Others fridge in the cafeteria.
Our volunteers' role -> Once a week (Mondays or Tuesdays), we are asking for a volunteer to collect the food and drop it off at Food For Others (1 mile away).
Our collective Impact -> In addition to minimizing food waste, we are helping 75,000 Fairfax County (and Fairhill families) who are food insecure. On a weekly basis last year, we collected hundreds of milk cartons, string cheese packets, crackers, yoghurts and more.
