Luther Jackson August 8 , 2025

From our Principal:

Jones

Dear Jackson Families,

It’s hard to believe, but in just one week we will open our doors to an exciting new school year! Our team is thrilled to welcome our incoming 7th graders to the LJ Tiger family and to see our returning 8th graders back in the halls, ready to lead the way.

This year, our school hours remain 7:30 AM–2:15 PM, with doors opening at 7:05 AM for students. We will continue our commitment to focused learning by using Yondr Pouches to support our Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy. All students will receive their pouches during the first week of school.

We have several opportunities coming up to connect before the first day:

  • Popsicles with the PTA – Tuesday, August 12th – Join us for a fun and relaxed evening to meet new friends, reconnect with familiar faces, and spend time with some of our amazing staff and PTA. Our PTA is our greatest support system, and we hope to see as many of you as possible attend events and participate in meetings!
  • Tiger Time Open House – Thursday, August 14th – Stop by to walk your schedule, meet your teachers, and get ready for a great year.

The 2025–26 school year is full of promise, and I know that this will be a wonderful year, filled with learning and joyful experiences. Thank you for your partnership, your energy, and your support of our students and staff. We look forward to seeing you all very soon!

Best,

RJ

Thomas Jefferson Online Portal:

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) online application portal will open Monday, October 20th, at 4:00PM.  Representatives from TJHSST will be giving an information presentation on Monday, September 15th, at 2:30PM in the LJMS auditorium.  The presentation is approximately 30 minutes with additional time for questions and answers.  Both students and parents are invited to attend.  No registration is necessary.  Please note that students attending this information session will need to sign up for a second after school session if they are not leaving school with a parent after the presentation. For more information, please go to the TJ Admissions webpage at https://www.fcps.edu/tjadmissions. Please visit the TJHSST website to understand the required courses that students need to take in their 8th grade year in order to apply to TJHSS. Please contact Mr. Tickle at BRTickle@fcps.edu or 703 204 8124 for questions or for help with the application process.

Checking Students Out From School:

Families, remember that when coming to the school to pick up your student, an official photo ID must be presented to the Main Office staff. Please understand that this is for security purposes. Driver’s licenses, passports, and military IDs are appropriate examples of official IDs.

From Student Services:

Good things to know:

When students need to miss school, it is important for parents/guardians to communicate those absences with the school.  This can be done by calling the attendance phone line at 703-204-8282.

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

📋 Permission Forms

Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Parents can opt their child in or out of resources including online educational tools, school counseling services, and tutoring services. They can also change how student information is managed. Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. See how to use the tool

How to Report Incidents of Discrimination & Harassment:

The "Discrimination and Harassment: Let's Talk" platform is an essential tool that allows anyone within our school community to report incidents of discrimination, harassment, or other concerning behaviors confidentially. More information about the platform, including how to access and use it, can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/submit-discrimination-and-harassment-report.
