Bonjour and Buenos Dias from FHS!

What joyful sounds fill our halls and gym this week! We're absolutely loving the energy of our students as we host both our World Language Camp and Volleyball Camp. It's truly a delight to work with these bright, energetic future Lions, and their enthusiasm is contagious!

Important Updates for the Upcoming School Year!

As we look ahead, we want to make sure you're well-informed about a few key items for the 2025-2026 school year.

FCPS Grading Policy Changes

Fairfax County Public Schools has implemented some important adjustments to its grading policy for the upcoming academic year. We have included the new policy in this newsletter for your review.

Upcoming Events for Our Future Lions!

Mark your calendars for these exciting opportunities to get ready for the school year:

  • Lions on the Rise Freshman Event: Our annual "Lions on the Rise" event for incoming 9th graders (Class of 2029) is scheduled for August 5th-7th, from 9 AM to 12 PM each day. This fantastic program will include games, snacks, opportunities to make new friends, receive some Fairfax spirit wear, and get a tour of the school. Our upperclassmen, teachers, counselors, and administrators will be on hand to answer questions and help prepare our freshmen for a great school year! You'll even learn about the new Freshman Academy. While attendance all three days isn't required, it's highly encouraged as each day offers something different.
  • Feel the Roar Open House: Join us for our "Feel the Roar Open House JAM and Fairfax Academy Open House" on Thursday, August 14th, from 2 PM to 5 PM. This is a wonderful chance for all students and families to purchase parking, receive technology, visit classrooms, meet teachers, and reconnect with our school community before the official start of classes.

We are so excited for the new school year and can't wait to see all our Lions, new and returning, roaring with enthusiasm!

Sincerely,

💯Middle School and High School Grading Updates

There will be new grading policies for all middle and high school classes in 2025-26. The goal of these changes is to increase consistency and clarity of grading practices. Learn about middle and high school grading policy updates.

Security Screening Reminders

Security Screenings

As we approach the new school year, we wanted to remind our students that Open Gate screening will occur daily. The following items should be removed from bags to prevent false readings:

  • Lunch boxes
  • Laptops
  • Binders
  • Pencil Cases
  • Glasses Cases
  • Umbrellas

Thank you for your help and cooperation!

📱Cell Phone Policy Update

Beginning in August, high school students can only use their cell phones and other personal devices (AirPods, smart watches, etc.) during lunch and before or after school. This is a change from FCPS’ current cell phone policy, which allows high schoolers to use devices during passing periods. Next school year, students must keep devices off and away during classroom time and during passing periods between classes.

Read more about the Cell Phone Policy.
