Gunston Gazette

Dear Gunston Families,

What an incredible year it has been! As we wrap up the final day of school, I want to take a moment to reflect on the joy, the growth, and the many successes we've shared together.

This year, our theme “Embrace the Journey: Grow Together, Learn and Soar” came to life in the classrooms, on the playground, and in the hearts of our students and staff. From engaging lessons and creative projects to joyful celebrations and acts of kindness, our Gunston Eagles showed perseverance, pride, and purpose every step of the way.

We are especially proud of the academic and social-emotional growth our students have made. Their hard work—and your continued partnership—have made all the difference.

As summer begins, I hope you find time to relax, recharge, and make lasting memories with your loved ones. Our Eagles have certainly earned a break, and we look forward to welcoming them back ready to soar even higher next year.  To our eagles and families who will be moving on next year, we know you will continue to soar and we wish you the best.  Remember, “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle”, we love getting updates and visits in the future.

I am also excited to share some news for the upcoming school year. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Ashley Nelson as our new Assistant Principal. Ms. Nelson brings a wealth of experience, a collaborative spirit, and a deep commitment to supporting students and families. We are thrilled to have her joining the Gunston community! We  are appreciative of all the contributions Mr. Barton has made to our community during his brief time with us.  We wish him the best on his next steps.

Thank you for a wonderful year. We are grateful for your continued support, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our Gunston Eagles.  We will continue to send Gunston Gazettes over the summer with dates for summer events and more details about our Open House in August.

Have a safe and joyful summer!

With appreciation, Ms. Rucinski

Immunizations

Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:

  • All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations before the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
    • To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age seven or older.
    • To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
    • As a parent/guardian, you may decide not to have your child receive the HPV vaccination. If that is the case, the school does not require documentation.
  • All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) before the beginning of school.
    • To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.

Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

Local immunization clinics and additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and from the Fairfax County Health Department
