Luther Jackson June 12 , 2025

From our Principal:

Jones

Dear Jackson Families,

As we close out another successful school year, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for your partnership, dedication, and resilience. It has been a joy watching our Tigers grow, learn, and thrive.

A few important summer updates:

Our school building will be closed for summer repairs from June 17th through July 30th. During this time, our front office staff will be working from alternate locations.

Families needing to register new students or update course selections over the summer should schedule an appointment by contacting Ms. Sussy Carbajal at smcarbajal@fcps.edu. Please note that walk-in appointments will not be available during the repair period.

We will run our How to Survive Middle School program this year. This exciting camp for rising 7th graders will take place July 30th and 31st at Jackson. For more information, please reach out to Melih Ertekin at mertekin@fcps.edu.

Finally, be on the lookout for details about Back to School Night and our Tiger Time Open House in mid to late July.

We wish all of our families a safe, fun, and productive summer! We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on August 18th!

Best regards,

R.N. Jones

School Supply Kits for the coming School Year:

Luther Jackson MS has partnered with School Specialty to provide families the opportunity to order a supply kit to begin the 2025-26 school year.

The sale will run now until June 22nd.  We encourage you to purchase this kit, as it contains the basic supplies necessary for your child to be prepared for school in August.  The cost for one kit is $32.

Please visit www.shopttkits.com    Our School Account # is 94047

Kits will be labeled with your child’s name on it and delivered to the school.

Teachers will also provide students and families a list of “specific” supplies that may be necessary for their class and/or projects.

Dear Parent or Guardian:

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school- (June 11th).  Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Good things to know:

When students need to miss school, it is important for parents/guardians to communicate those absences with the school.  This can be done by calling the attendance phone line at 703-204-8282.

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

📋 Permission Forms

Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Parents can opt their child in or out of resources including online educational tools, school counseling services, and tutoring services. They can also change how student information is managed. Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. See how to use the tool

How to Report Incidents of Discrimination & Harassment:

The "Discrimination and Harassment: Let's Talk" platform is an essential tool that allows anyone within our school community to report incidents of discrimination, harassment, or other concerning behaviors confidentially. More information about the platform, including how to access and use it, can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/submit-discrimination-and-harassment-report.

From Tech Support:

Parents can complete the Lightspeed Parent Report Request. This request provides parents with Weekly Parent Reports delivered by Lightspeed directly to an authorized parent email over the weekend. These reports summarize the websites visited by the student while using an FCPS device.

At the bottom of the weekly report, parents can register for the Parent Relay Portal, which provides detailed browsing information. The sign-up is embedded within the Lightspeed report and does not require any further submission to IT or IT intervention. The extended access also gives parents the ability to pause internet access on their child’s FCPS laptop during non-school hours, such as dinner or bedtime. However, parents cannot pause the internet during the school day.
