A Fond Farewell to the 2024-2025 School Year
As we reach the ending of another incredible academic year, I'm filled with immense LION pride and gratitude for our entire school community. The 2024-2025 school year has been one of remarkable growth, significant achievements, and countless memories.
Finishing Strong: Exams and Projects
The final stretch of the school year has ended with and our students finishing final exams and providing presentations of learning in a variety of classes. This was a crucial time for students to demonstrate all they've learned and the skills they've developed throughout the year. We are proud to see the culmination of these courses come to a strong close.
A Summer of Fun, Relaxation, and Reading!
With the end of school here, it's time to embrace the JOYs of summer! I wish all our students and staff a well-deserved season of fun and relaxation. But even as we unwind, let's not forget the power of a good book. Our love for literacy continues, and I encourage everyone to make reading a part of their summer adventures. Whether it's a thrilling novel, an insightful non-fiction book, or a captivating graphic novel, let your imagination soar through the pages.
Celebrating Our Collective Achievements
This year, our students and staff have truly raised the bar in both expectations and academics. I am incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work that has led to a noticeable increase in participation in advanced coursework. Every student who has taken on the challenge of advanced courses, and every teacher who has guided them, deserves immense recognition. These achievements are a testament to our collaborative spirit and shared vision for success.
Attendance Matters EVERDAY, and we were excited to continue to decrease our chronic absenteeism rates. This year we decreased by an additional 1.6%, falling below the VDOE threshold. Students learn the most when they present and part of our community or engage in meaningful recovery time. We look forward to continuing our intentional attendance efforts.
Enrollment, Employment, and Enlistment
The E’s is part of the new state accountability measures. This ensures that every student has taken a rigorous course and/or completed a career and technology pathway and/or has engaged successfully in the ASVAB assessment and career counseling. Fairfax High is proud to announce that this is our highest growth area in the accountability system with double digit gains!
Thank You for being PAWSome
On a personal note, I am deeply humbled and blessed to share that I was named the FCPS Principal of the Year. This honor, however, isn't truly mine alone. It simply wouldn't be possible without the incredible collaboration and unwavering support of our strong school community. Serving you every day at Fairfax is a true privilege.
I wish you all a safe, happy, and rejuvenating summer!
Sincerely,

🗓️Calendar Reminders
Father's Day, June 15

Father's Day is Sunday, June 15. We take this opportunity to celebrate and recognize the incredible role fathers and father figures play in our lives and in our school community. We recognize and show appreciation for the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and all those who serve in nurturing roles.
To all the dads and father figures in our community - thank you for everything you do. Your strength, love, and dedication help shape the future, one student at a time.
Juneteenth Holiday, June 19

Juneteenth is a celebration and commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth marks a day in 1865 when enslaved Texans learned they would be free, two months after the end of the Civil War and two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. #OurFCPS
Juneteenth, Wednesday, June 19, is a holiday for FCPS employees. School buildings and offices will be closed.

📑SR&R Updates
Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Updates for 2025-26 School YearAt their May 8 meeting, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the SR&R, including its cell phone policy. Other SR&R updates include added clarity and/or procedures around topics such as discipline data, parent notifications, hate speech, and integrated discipline training. The full list of changes is available on Boarddocs.
Cell Phone Policy Update for High SchoolsBeginning in August, high school students can only use their cell phones and other personal devices (AirPods, smart watches, etc.) during lunch and before or after school. This is a change from FCPS’ current cell phone policy, which allows high schoolers to use devices during passing periods. Next school year, students must keep devices off and away during classroom time and during passing periods between classes.
