Students at Signing Day

May 9, 2025

Happy Friday Fairfax Families,

Fairfax High School was ROARing this week!

Spotlight on Creativity: Fashion Design Academy Shines on the Runway

This past Saturday night, our talented students from the Fashion Design Academy took center stage and truly impressed! The runway came alive with original student-curated collections, each piece reflecting their unique vision and style. In addition to showcasing their designs, students embraced sustainability through an exciting upcycle challenge—transforming existing garments into innovative new creations. Their craftsmanship, style, and commitment to eco-conscious design were nothing short of inspiring. Congratulations to all of our young designers on a fabulous night!

Celebrating Scholarship and the Future Ahead

Academics and post-secondary pathways took center stage at Fairfax High this week. We proudly welcomed 170 outstanding students into the National Honor Society, recognizing their dedication to scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Their service commitments reflect the best of Fairfax—ranging from peer tutoring and elder care to disaster relief drives, donation efforts, and impactful global service projects. Their contributions are a testament to the powerful role young people play in shaping a better world.

We also celebrated Decision Day with our Class of 2025! Seniors gathered to share and honor their post-graduation commitments to colleges, careers, and the military. It was a morning filled with pride, possibility, and a deep appreciation for the power of education to open doors and shape futures. Congratulations to every student stepping forward into their next chapter—you inspire us all!

The AVID College and Career Fair is always an exciting event at FHS. Today we welcomed colleges, universities, trade schools, and public service representatives to discuss the infinite options after high school. Our elementary and middle school friends were also able to join in on the fun and begin thinking about their futures.

A “Wicked” Week of Appreciation and Student Wellness

This week, Fairfax High School was filled with gratitude, joy, and a little bit of Oz-inspired magic! In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we rolled out a “wicked” celebration to thank our incredible staff. With the generous support of our community partners, we treated our teachers to breakfast, lunch, cozy pajamas, and gift cards. Our students joined in the celebration by creating a heartfelt Yellow Brick Road of thank-you notes and handmade cards—small gestures with a big impact.

We also turned our attention to student wellness, knowing that testing season can bring stress and anxiety. To support our students, we offered a variety of wellness activities throughout the week. From karaoke music to therapy dogs, friendly farm animals, and painting stations, there was something for everyone to enjoy and unwind. It was a week filled with compassion, creativity, and connection.

Have a PAWSome Weekend and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Thank you for your continued partnership.

Students with Lama at Petting Zoom

Fairfax High School recently hosted a petting zoo, offering students a unique opportunity to unwind and de-stress. The presence of friendly animals, including a charming alpaca, provided a much-needed therapeutic break from the rigors of schoolwork. Students were observed enjoying interactions with the animals, a simple yet effective way to promote well-being and create a positive atmosphere amidst the busy school year.

Summer Internship Program

FCPS is launching a Summer Internship Program. This six-week, paid, in-person opportunity is for FCPS high school students or recent alumni enrolled in post-secondary education. This program is designed to provide valuable hands-on work experience, professional development, and project-based learning across various FCPS departments.

Interns will support professional staff in their selected department with projects and participate in weekly professional development workshops on topics such as personal finance, communication skills, resume writing, and networking. Interns will shadow staff completing mission-critical projects that prepare the division for the upcoming school year.

💲Outstanding Fees

The school year is ending soon, and we need to get all outstanding fees paid.  Earlier this week, an email was sent to the parent email on file in SIS, if your student owes any money. Directions were included, so please refer back to those if you have any questions. All Free and Reduced lunch benefits have been applied, so if you have a fee and feel that it is in error, please let the teacher know immediately. Thank you for your help and support.

🚗 Online Driving Permit Test Prep

Nearly 35,000 students have been educated by FCPS ACE’s Driver Education program in the last decade, preparing them to be safe, responsible drivers.

In Virginia alone, 17% of all accidents are caused by distracted driving, amounting to over 21,000 accidents that could have been avoided. The Virginia DMV reports that driver education plays a significant role in safer driving by young drivers, with some studies showing that it can reduce accident rates by up to 20%.

ACE now offers one of the only online permit test prep courses authorized by the state of Virginia. Learn more about driver education and FCPS ACE Driver Education courses.
