Art Exhibition Showcased our Talented Students!

April 25, 2025
Happy Friday Fairfax Family,
It’s been another PAWSitively incredible week here at FHS, and I’m excited to share just a few of the many highlights that make our school community so special.
We kicked off the week by hosting the City School Board Student Panel, where students from grades 9–12 shared their thoughts on grading practices, facilities, and access to courses and advising. Their voices were thoughtful, insightful, and inspiring—and we’re proud to elevate student feedback as we continue to grow and improve.
Our Art Show opened on Tuesday and let me tell you—I was ROARing my praises. The creativity, talent, and passion of our student artists is simply awe-inspiring. It’s always a joy to welcome our community in to celebrate the work of our incredible visual arts program.
Meanwhile, our AP Seminar scholars wrapped up their Individual Research Project presentations, showcasing months of hard work and academic exploration. As part of our pilot group for this course, these students are paving the way for future cohorts, and we couldn’t be prouder of their poise and intellectual curiosity.
In the world of Career and Technical Education, our Auto Technology program held its spring meeting, which featured student career journeys, scholarship winners, and community award recognitions. We’re deeply thankful for the continued support of our industry partners, who help strengthen our CTE pathways and support our students’ bright futures.
Now for a bit of fun—PAPER-ROCK-SCISSORS GO! After an intense schoolwide showdown, we officially crowned our PRS champion! It was a playful and spirited reminder of the importance of connection and school spirit.
A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to our incredible PTSA, who truly made our staff feel appreciated this week. From gift baskets and raffles to lunch and sweet treats, your generosity filled our halls (and hearts!) with joy.
We also paused to recognize the wonderful, smiling faces and warm voices of FHS—our amazing Administrative Professionals. Thank you for your tireless support, dedication, and commitment to keeping our school running smoothly every single day.
Finally, if you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, don’t miss the opening of Hadestown—it starts TONIGHT! Come out and support our talented performers and production team. It’s sure to be a show to remember!
In partnership and collaboration,

🩺 Measles
Protect Your Child from Measles: What You Need to Know
Measles cases continue to rise in the U.S. About 1 in 5 people who get measles end up in the hospital. Measles can cause severe complications like a lung infection (pneumonia), brain inflammation (encephalitis), and possibly death, even with medical care. Symptoms of measles typically include:
- High fever (may spike up to 104°F)
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
- A rash that appears around 3-5 days after other symptoms begin. The rash typically starts on the face and spreads down the body.
The best way to protect a child from measles is by getting two doses of the combination measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.
If you are unsure of your child's vaccination status or your personal vaccination status, talk to your health care provider. If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your health care provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or view other Immunization Resources.
✅School Health Survey
The Fairfax County Health Department and Fairfax County Public Schools School Health Services invite parents/caregivers of FCPS students to participate in a survey on satisfaction with school health room services. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and will be open until Monday, May 5.
School health rooms (clinics) are managed by public health nurses and school health aides. Those staff provide care for students who become sick or injured during the school day, who require medications during the school day, and/or who have a chronic health condition that requires management during the school day.
Additionally, the school health room staff:
- Provide health education, communicable disease prevention, and health screenings.
- Work with schools to help address the root causes of population health disparities so that all students have equitable access to educational and health opportunities.
- Ensure that students have care for minor injuries and illnesses, and chronic health conditions, thus helping to minimize health barriers to learning.
Survey results will provide a basis for quality improvement of school health room services as well as inform future planning for schools.
