April 17th, 2025
Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
It has been a quiet week at Flint Hill Elementary without students or teachers here. I would like to thank our custodial team for the great care they have put into our school this week, especially for the spring mulching and trimming they contributed to the front of our school! Thank you!
I will be a busy week when students return to school on Monday. Don't forget to get your tickets for the FHES Basketball Game that will take place on Thursday, April 24th at Madison HS. FHES staff will play verses Vienna Elementary in a fun game to support the PTA. Tickets can be purchased here and doors open for the event at 5:30 pm!
To make the basketball game a success, we need volunteers! If you are able to volunteer for the basketball game to help with concessions, tickets, or other needs, click here!
Don't forget, the next three-hour early release day will be on Monday, April 28th. Also, Kindergarten Orientation will be held on April 28th from 1:30 -2:30 pm for rising kindergarten students and their families.
If you have not done so already, please share your input with us regarding class placements for the upcoming school year. Information shared in this form can help as we prepare classes for the next school year. The form will be open for responses until April 18th.
Lastly, save the date for the Falcon Fun Run on Saturday, May 17th from 9:00 am until noon! Students and parents are invited to join in the fun with our PTA for a morning of friendly competition and outdoor fun! See the message below for more information and how to register.
Kindly,

New kindergarten students and their families are invited to visit Flint Hill to learn more about the upcoming school year. To begin, please follow the steps below to begin the registration process.
There’s an easy five-step process outlined for parents looking to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment.
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation, Bridge to Kindergarten, or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.
Begin your Kindergarten and New Student Registration today!
If you have any questions, please contact our Student Information Assistant (SIA), Shirley Eason, or call the main office at 703-242-6100.
To help us prepare for the upcoming school year, we are seeking parent/family input to build class lists for the 25-26 school year. Please take a moment to complete the optional input form below.
Sharing input about your students' areas of strength, need and interest will help our staff build balanced, effective classes that meet student needs. Also, sharing other circumstances that may be unique to your student can also be considered.
Please do not share requests for specific teachers and placement with specific students. In building class lists for over 600 students, it is not possible to meet all requests. Feedback that includes requests for specific teachers will not be included in our review.
1.) Please describe your child's strengths and areas of need.
2.) Are there any extenuating circumstances or factors that may influence our decision regarding placement for the 2025-2026 school year?
Please provide all input through the link below (Deadline: April 18th). Emailed comments will not be considered.

As required by the Code of Virginia, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend public school. All students entering seventh grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older.
- Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.
- A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents/guardians sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with their child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. If your child does not have a health care provider, please visit the FCPS Immunizations Resource page to find out where to get an immunization.

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.
Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.
Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.
