 Hello Husky Families!
We’ve officially made it two weeks into the fourth grading quarter, and we are so proud of the hard work our students have shown so far. As we look ahead, we want to remind you that the Virginia Standards of Learning (VA SOL) testing season is just around the corner. This is an important time for students to stay focused, review key concepts, and finish the school year strong.
Before we dive into testing, however, we’re all looking forward to a well-deserved break! Spring Break will take place from April 14 through April 18, giving students and staff the chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends.
School will resume on Monday, April 21, which will also be a three-hour early release day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Let’s make the final stretch of the school year a successful one!
Warm regards, The Administration Team Hybla Valley Elementary School

FCPS will offer a new Montessori program in the West Potomac pyramid. The program will begin in the 2025-26 school year, starting with multi-age classrooms at the pre-K and kindergarten levels.
The program will be located at Bucknell Elementary School. Families of 3, 4, and 5 year olds are invited to apply through a lottery process. Eligible families must have a verified residence in the West Potomac pyramid — Belle View, Fort Hunt, Groveton, Hollin Meadows, Hybla Valley, Stratford Landing, or Waynewood elementary schools.
Riverside Elementary School is a split feeder school with students residing in boundaries that feed both the Mount Vernon High School Pyramid and the West Potomac pyramid. Students who are zoned for Riverside Elementary School and reside in the West Potomac pyramid are also eligible.
Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find which school your student is zoned to attend.
Bucknell families may choose to access this program that will be offered within their base school. Families zoned for Bucknell must complete the lottery application to indicate their interest. Four- and five-year olds who are zoned for Bucknell will have automatic acceptance. Three-year olds who are zoned for Bucknell will be entered into the lottery. The program is free and transportation will be provided. Funding for this program is provided by the U.S. Department of Education’s Magnet Schools Assistance Program.
The program will expand each year to include the next grade level. For example, in School Year 2026-27, there will be Montessori classrooms available for first grade students.

Fairfax County Public Schools believes that public education is the cornerstone of a successful community. We will continue to do all that we can to ensure access to safe and vibrant learning spaces for all of our students, families, and staff. While some things may be changing, what’s unwavering is our commitment to ensuring that all students benefit from a world-class education in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. We encourage our students to come to school every day.
Parents/caregivers, students, and staff have asked what FCPS is doing to ensure a safe learning experience for our community. Please see resources below.
FCPS continues to monitor national policy decisions that impact our students, their families and some of our staff and their families. There are existing laws that govern our work as a public school system.
In accordance with federal law, FCPS does not require any student or family member to share their immigration status. Also, FCPS does not collect student or family member immigration status.
FCPS follows the law. The 1982 Supreme Court decision in Plyer v. Doe established that all children, regardless of immigration status, have the right to a public education. This was a result of the state of Texas enacting a law allowing school districts to deny enrollment to undocumented children.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, enacted in 1974, also protects the privacy of student information.
FCPS is not aware of any efforts by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) or other law enforcement authorities to enter FCPS schools in order to arrest or detain students, parents, or staff. If enforcement actions are taken at our schools, FCPS will follow its existing policies and regulations governing access to students and student record information by law enforcement entities. We will do everything within our authority to protect our students and staff.
We are sensitive to the emotions involved and will closely monitor potential impacts on our schools as we do with any new regulations or laws. As additional information becomes available we will share it with our students, staff, and families.
It is important to always be prepared for family crisis situations, and we encourage parents and guardians to talk to your children, in an age-appropriate manner, about what to do in the event of an emergency:
Families may also wish to review their decision related to voluntary disclosure of directory information and contact information. Contact your child's school to update information.
