We Celebrate our Assistant Principals! 🦁🎉💖

Asst. Principals WeekFHS Admin Team

April 11, 2025

Happy Friday Fairfax High Family,

As we head into a well-deserved Spring Break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible week we've shared as a school community!

We celebrated Student Appreciation Week with an exciting lineup of activities that brought joy, laughter, and connection throughout the building. From lively rounds of Bingo to the competitive fun of Paper, Rock, Scissors Challenges and Minute-to-Win-It Games, our students showed up with energy and enthusiasm. Our school-wide Snack Attack and a festive Egg Hunt kept the spirit going, but my favorite moment of the week was witnessing our teachers share words of affirmation with students — a beautiful reminder of the deep care and belief our educators have in their students.

This week was also National Assistant Principal’s Week, and we proudly celebrated our incredible administrative team. Their dedication to student support and commitment to building strong partnerships with families is what makes Fairfax High the community it is. To our APs — WE appreciate YOU!

Let’s not forget the CTE FACS Food Truck Wars — a showcase of creativity, collaboration, and culinary talent. Each class brought a unique food truck concept to life, complete with menus and delicious signature dishes. From Latin-inspired plates to Korean flavors, creative twists on pizza, and the unforgettable “BAM” sauce, it truly felt like a trip around the world — and every bite was a win.

As we all prepare to take a PAWSitive pause, I hope this break brings you rest, joy, and renewal. Thank you for continuing to make Fairfax High such a special place.

Enjoy your Spring Break!

Stay PAWSome! 🐾

Many Jewish families eat a ceremonial meal known as the Seder, which involves telling the story of the exodus from Egypt as well as eating various symbolic foods. Passover begins sundown April 12 and ends sundown April 20.

Good Friday/Orthodox Good Friday, April 18

Good Friday

Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a day of mourning. During special Good Friday services Christians meditate on Jesus's suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith. This week we recognize those in our community observing Good Friday. On this day, Christians observe the commemoration of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for those who believe. #OurFCPS

Excellence is at a Crossroads

Budget Banner

Excellent teachers are the heart of FCPS! They inspire our kids, go the extra mile, and make a real difference. But the current Fairfax County Board of Supervisors advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million for next year.

Being fully funded helps keep class sizes down and the number of highly-qualified teachers up at FCPS. Keeping the best teachers includes compensation that allows them to live and work in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County budget priorities survey is open until Thursday, April 24. Take a moment to share your thoughts. Now is the time. Learn more about how excellence is at a Crossroads

Share Your Thoughts on School Start Times

FCPS would like to hear from all families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. Please check your email for a survey link from Fairfax County Public Schools. It was also sent to staff as well as to students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open through Saturday, April 12.

🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms

Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).

Drivers have begun to receive warnings. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.

According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction, unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped. They should remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus is moving.

We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with FCPS to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more about the stop arm cameras and other ways FCPS works with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.
