Letter from the Principals
Dear Gunston Families,
Spring is in the air, and with it comes a renewed energy across our school! We are incredibly excited for next week’s performance of Aladdin! Our talented student cast and crew have been working hard all year, dedicating countless hours to rehearsals and preparations. Their commitment, creativity, and collaboration will shine on stage, and we can’t wait for our community to witness the magic they’ve created. We know it’s going to be a spectacular show!
As we head into Spring Break, we hope each of you finds time to relax, recharge, and enjoy special moments with family and friends. This time also marks the beginning of the fourth quarter—a crucial period for student growth and achievement.
Daily attendance continues to play a vital role in academic success. Being present every day helps students stay engaged, connected, and on track with their learning. We appreciate your ongoing support in prioritizing consistent attendance and setting your child up for success as we move into the final stretch of the school year. Third quarter progress reports will be sent home at the end of next week. This is a great opportunity for students and families to reflect on academic and personal goals, celebrate accomplishments, and make a focused action plan for the remainder of the year.
As always, we thank you for your partnership and dedication to our school community. Please continue to remind your children of their daily responsibilities to be safe, respectful, and responsible throughout the school day. Together, we help create a positive and productive learning environment for all.
We look forward to seeing Aladdin and wish you a joyful and restful Spring Break!
Warmly,
Ms. Rucinski and Mr. Barton

During April, the Month of the Military Child, we're celebrating our Gunston students whose parents or guardians are currently serving in the U.S. military. Students will have a special morning to connect with one another through shared activities. While we've included parents in past celebrations, this year's event will focus on providing students with an opportunity to connect with their peers who share similar experiences. We look forward to honoring their unique experiences.
To further celebrate and honor our Military Youth students, we invite our entire school community to wear purple on Friday, April 11th. Purple symbolizes the unity of all military branches.
FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.

Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10, and ends Friday, June 6.

E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.
Bus Stop Arm Cameras
Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms -Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).
Warnings for drivers will begin on Wednesday, April 9. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.
According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction (unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped). They should remain stopped until everyone is clear and the bus is moving.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with us to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more information about the stop arm cameras and all of the ways that we work with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.
