From the Principal’s Pen
Dear Laurel Hill Families,
Thanks to all the teachers and PTA members who supported our Literacy Night last week and thank you to the students and families who attended. Please check out the One School, One Book website under the picture gallery to see all of the habitats each class created and other pictures. What a great event!
We practiced our tornado drill last week, and will be practicing our lockdown drill next week. These drills can sometimes be unsettling for students, but we want to assure you they are a vital part of our comprehensive safety plan. We take the safety and well-being of your children very seriously, and these drills help us ensure that everyone know what to do in case of an emergency.

Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak to those in our community who observe! In Islam, Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year. During this month Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day while striving to increase their spirituality, through prayers, charity, and good deeds. Muslims believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad. #OurFCPS

 Parents Need To Know
Spring SOL Reading, Math, and Science Testing Dates
For your planning purposes and reference, please see the Spring 2025 Standards Of Learning (SOL) Testing Dates. When possible, please avoid scheduling appointments and/or activities that would prevent your child from arriving at school on time on the days your child(ren) are participating in an SOL Assessment.

🚀 Prepare for a Summer of Learning and Fun
Registration will be available soon for summer camps offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10, and ends Friday, June 6.
Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. Watch this video about CTE camps.
E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.
For more information, see the Summer Learning page.
Principal Evaluation Feedback
Staff and parent/guardian feedback for the principal evaluation process will be collected online between March 24 and April 4. Respondents will rate their level of agreement with statements aligned with performance standards for school-based administrators. Parents/guardians with children enrolled at your school will be contacted via email with a unique link to submit their feedback. These invitations will be sent from @fcpssurvey, and each feedback link will be single-use. Please be reassured that the message is legitimate and that providing feedback on principal performance is a routine part of the FCPS evaluation process.
Attendance Reminders
If your child will be absent or late to school, there are 3 different ways to notify the school. Call (703) 551-5353 and leave a message 24/7 on the Attendance line, email LaurelHillElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or Login to Parent VUE. Additionally, we do not dismiss students after 3:30pm, as it disrupts our end of day schedule.
Parent & Emergency Contacts
Please make sure your telephone numbers are correct (and voice mail boxes aren't full) so we are able to contact you in case of student illness or emergency.
