From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

Our K-4th grade students enjoyed an assembly on Monday from a veterinarian from a local animal hospital.  All classes have been busy making beautiful habitats for their class animals!  These will all be displayed in the library for your viewing pleasure during our Literacy Night. Please check out the One School, One Book website for more information.

Girls on the Run is extending their registration timeline through March 7th for those that need extra time in registering their student for the spring season! Our spring season will run from March 3rd through May 17th. Late registration is $235 per participant: https://www.gotrnova.org/3rd-5th-grade-program-details.

Our SCA is collecting donations for the Lorton Animal Shelter.  Please see the flyer below and turn in donations by March 14th.  Don't forget that Monday, March 10th is a three hour early release for Laurel Hill.  We will dismiss at 1:05 pm.  We hope to see everyone tonight at Literacy Night.  Doors open at 6 pm!

Sincerely,

Janice Dalton, Principal

Ramadan

Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak to those in our community who observe! In Islam, Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year. During this month Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day while striving to increase their spirituality, through prayers, charity, and good deeds. Muslims believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad. #OurFCPS

🚀 Prepare for a Summer of Learning and Fun

Registration will be available soon for summer camps offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10, and ends Friday, June 6.

Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. Watch this video about CTE camps.

E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.

For more information, see the Summer Learning page.

Principal Evaluation Feedback

Staff and parent/guardian feedback for the principal evaluation process will be collected online between March 24 and April 4. Respondents will rate their level of agreement with statements aligned with performance standards for school-based administrators. Parents/guardians with children enrolled at your school will be contacted via email with a unique link to submit their feedback. These invitations will be sent from @fcpssurvey, and each feedback link will be single-use.  Please be reassured that the message is legitimate and that providing feedback on principal performance is a routine part of the FCPS evaluation process.

Attendance Reminder

If your child will be absent or late to school, there are 3 different ways to notify the school. Call (703) 551-5353 and leave a message 24/7 on the Attendance line, email LaurelHillElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or Login to Parent VUE.
