Scholastic Book Fair

Woodlawn will host the Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, March 3rd to Friday, March 7th.

Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading.

As always, all purchases benefit our school.

Book Fair Family Night will be held on Wednesday, March 5th in the Woodlawn cafeteria from 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm


Three-Hour Early Release Monday March 10th

For the early release day on Monday, March 10th, we will default to your child's dismissal preference from the last early release Monday.

To change your child's dismissal time, please contact the main office at 703-619-4800 by Wednesday, March 5th.

Reminder messages will be sent through Talking Points on February 20th and March 4th. 


PreK Applications for 2025 - 2026

FCPS PreK and Early Head Start is now accepting applications for School Year 2025-26!

We are a High-Quality Early Childhood Program for Eligible Families. Limited spots available for children aged 3 and 4 by September 30

Literacy Night

Families with kindergarten - second grade students are invited to our Literacy Night!

  • Wednesday, March 12th at Woodlawn Elementary from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. 
  • Take home FREE books and resources to help your child read at home.
  • Experience a reading lesson in your child's classroom.
  • FREE pizza will be served.

Family Food Markets at Riverside Elementary

  • Capital Area Food Bank is hosting family food markets at Riverside Elementary once a month until the end of the school year. 
  • Shelf-stable food items and produce will be provided at no cost.
  • The next market will be on March 4.
    • Future dates are April 8, May 6, and June 3.
  • The markets open at 9:30 am and 5:30 pm
  • Riverside Elementary School is located at 8410 Old Mount Vernon Road, Alexandria, VA 22309. 

Fresh Food Markets at Bucknell Elementary

  • Capital Area Food Bank is hosting fresh food markets at Bucknell Elementary once a month until the end of the school year. 
  • Fresh vegetables and fruits will be distributed at these markets. 
  • The next market will be on February 26.
    • Future dates are March 19, April 9, May 21, and June 4. 
  • The markets open at 10:30 am and stay open until the food is gone. 
  • Bucknell Elementary School is located at 6925 University Drive, Alexandria, VA 22307. 
  • The markets will be at the front of the school by door 2.  If it is raining, the markets will be in the back of the school by door 9. 

Make Sure Your Children Are Up-to-Date on Immunizations

All students are required to be immunized against certain diseases to attend school in Virginia. 

Starting Monday, May 19, students who have not provided proof of immunization may not be allowed to attend school.

You can check your child’s immunization status and submit updated immunization information by accessing SIS ParentVUE

If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or view other Immunization Resources


Magnet School Lottery Registration

Three FCPS elementary magnet schools — Hunters Woods, Bailey’s Primary, and Bailey’s Upper — provide enhanced learning programs in science, technology, and performing arts. 

Registration for the 2025-26 elementary magnet lottery is open Tuesday, March 4, through Friday, April 4.

Black History Month Kick-Off Celebration

FCPS’ Chief Equity Office invites the community to an Inaugural Black History Month Kickoff Celebration on Wednesday, February 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Carter G. Woodson High School.   

The event begins with a light reception followed by a formal program, From the Threads of Our Past to the Fabric of Our Future. The program will honor the enduring contributions of Black history and culture while envisioning a future rooted in equity and excellence. It will include inspiring performances, personal stories, reflections, and opportunities to connect and celebrate. The event is open to the entire community.
