Happy New Year!
Dear Fairhill Families,
Happy New Year! While this isn’t exactly how we expected to start the new calendar year with our students, we hope you’ve been able to make the most of this time together as a family and have enjoyed the snow.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, FCPS published an informative video explaining how they determine inclement weather days. You can find it HERE.
Looking ahead, we want to draw our sixth-grade families’ attention to the flyer below from Luther Jackson Middle School about their Curriculum Nights. Students will be selecting classes before you know it, so we encourage all families to attend.
We hope to see everyone soon!
Warm regards,
Ted & Maura

This holiday seasons may involve gifts for some families. Some of those gifts may be technology related. As a reminder, the FCPS SRR states: Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. If your student is getting a smartwatch over break, please consider reviewing this website on School Mode to set your student up for success. |

🚍 Beep! Beep! Stay Up-to-Date on Transportation
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following kiss-and-ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.
If a bus is delayed, parents/caregivers may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce bus delays of 30 minutes or more. Visit the Transportation Services contact webpage to see who to contact with specific questions.
To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.

 Volunteer Opportunity for GOTR
I am a parent and former Girls on the Run Coach looking for coaches to join me in starting a Girls on the Run program for 3rd-5th grade girls at Fairhill this spring. The 10 week program beginning March 3rd will include 2 weekly hour long practices that build toward completing a 5k on May 17th. I hope to hold practices at 8:10 in the morning on Mondays and Fridays. Having three coaches will allow us to cover any coach who needs to be absent.
There is no specific background or fitness level required for coaches, so we are looking for anyone who is interested in mentoring/inspiring the girls at Fairhill ES! Coaches will participate in an online training and one 3 hour in person training to prepare for coaching. Please contact me (Laura Cooper) at lacooper22@gmail.com if you are interested or have any questions.
Help Us Erase Student Lunch Debt

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications
According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Families that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive breakfast and lunch for their students at no cost.
Families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Look for the application in August, view criteria, and up-to-date information on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.
Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online. If you have questions or need assistance with the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application, please contact the Fairhill front office at 703-208-8100.Plan to Submit Free and Reduced-Price
