Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
Winter Break starts this Friday afternoon, and we wish you a wonderful break. As mentioned at Thanksgiving, we take these opportunities to remind our staff at each long break to give our students (and themselves) a respite from schoolwork during the holiday. While teachers may have long-term assignments that span over the course of a break, we have shared with the staff not to assign homework, projects, essays, etc. to be specifically done over the break.
Everyone can enjoy the opportunity to spend time with our families and friends. We want our students to have the opportunity to catch a breath from schoolwork and to enjoy time with friends and family. We also want our teachers to decompress and put their lesson plan books and laptops away for a few days to enjoy time with their friends and family. Our goal is to have students and teachers return to school anxiety-free without the pressure of looming deadlines. This is a unified message that Madison pyramid principals send to all our communities. Mr. Baker and I wish you a wonderful time together with family and friends!
See you next year!
Mr. Montaquila, Principal
Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal
We are excited to share that Ms. Stout was selected as an Educate Fairfax grant recipient!
Ms. Stout was awarded a grant of $1,997.00 for Bringing the Coding World to Primary Students! Educate Fairfax received over 200 applications, and awarded 106 grants to 100 schools.
This grant recognizes an innovative approach to education and a commitment to providing students with equitable access to meaningful learning opportunities. The project aligns perfectly with our mission and the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Strategic Plan. By fostering creativity and supporting innovation in the classroom, Ms. Stout's project will help provide students with equitable access to the tools and opportunities they need to thrive academically and personally.

Removal of the current playground structures and installation of the new playground will begin later this spring and is expected to be completed before the end of the school year. While there will be a few weeks of construction at FHES, our students will continue to have access to our fields, blacktops and the recently completed futsal and basketball courts.
More information about the project can be found here.
Thank you to the FCPS School Board and FCPS Facilities for supporting this investment in resources for our school and community!

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. We are notified by safety and security if the temperatures get too low. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing (labeled with the name!), so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. On the majority of days, students will go outside for recess.
Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made. FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated. Be sure to plan for the winter season.
If you need assistance getting cold weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and healthcare.

We did it! FHES has surpassed the 250 lb goal for plastic collection and we still have more to tally. Please continue to gather your plastic items for donations and let's keep moving toward out 1000 lb goal in January!
Plastic items that can be included in the challenge are detailed in the image below. Plastic collection bins are located in the main lobby.
Keep saving your plastic and bring your collections back to FHES in January!

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.
Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.
Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!
As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE. Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there.
