Book Fair Week!

Hello Fairhill Families!

This week is extra exciting at Fairhill because it’s Book Fair Week!

The Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore new books and spark a love for reading. To kick things off, we’re hosting a Parent Viewing Night tonight at 5:30 PM in the library. This is a special chance for families to preview the amazing selection of books and make some early purchases.

We hope to see you there and can’t wait to share this joyful event with our community!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making Fairhill a great place to learn and grow.

Warm regards,
Ted and Maura

AAP Referral Reminder

Reminder:  Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15, 2024

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Erica Campbell (escampbell1@fcps.edu) no later than December 15, 2024

The window for families to submit a referral for Full-Time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for Full-Time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for Full-Time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for Full-Time placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Erica Campbell (escampbell1@fcps.edu).

Referrals for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP are screened at the local school. If you miss this deadline, your student can still be screened for Subject-Specific AAP or Part-Time AAP for the remainder of the year and submit a referral for Full-Time AAP next fall.

For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs website.

GOTR

Volunteer Opportunity

I am a parent and former Girls on the Run Coach looking for two coaches to join me in starting a Girls on the Run program for 3rd-6th grade girls at Fairhill this spring. The 10 week program will include 2 weekly hour long practices that build toward completing a 5k on May 17th along with a community service project.  There is no specific background or fitness level required for coaches, so we are looking for anyone who is interested in mentoring/inspiring the girls at Fairhill ES!

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Families that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive breakfast and lunch for their students at no cost.

Families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Look for the application in August, view criteria, and up-to-date information on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.

Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.
