A NEW QUARTER!

Hello Fairhill Families

We hope you enjoyed a wonderful extended weekend with your family and had the chance to reflect on a successful first quarter for your students. The new quarter gives us all the opportunity to set fresh goals—personally and academically—for teachers, staff, and students alike. Reflection is one of the most powerful tools for learning, so we hope you take a moment to reflect on the first quarter with your students.

Looking ahead, we have an exciting week at Fairhill! This Thursday is our PTA Meet and Greet at 6:00 PM followed by our November meeting, starting at 6:30 PM. On Saturday, we will host our Annual Pumpkin Pie Run, beginning at 9AM. This is one of the highlights of fall, and we hope to see you there. More information can be found below.

See you later this week!

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

Impact Aid

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to complete a Federal Impact Aid Survey as soon as possible. The form is available in ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in).

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, please watch this video on Impact Aid and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Fairfax County Youth Survey

The Fairfax County Youth Survey, a collaboration between the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is a comprehensive, anonymous, and voluntary survey given each year to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. The survey examines behaviors, experiences, and other factors that influence the health and well-being of Fairfax County's youth. The results, published each year at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/youthsurvey, identify trends and areas of need, providing a snapshot of the county's youth and serving as a barometer of the community's effectiveness in fostering healthy choices in young people. You are able to view the survey here.

Fairhill Elementary School will be administering the Fairfax County Youth Survey on 11/20 at 12:05 – 12:55pm.

If you do not wish for your child to take part in the Youth Survey, please complete the form linked here and return it to your child's school counselor no later than November 8, 2024. If you have already opted your child out of this survey using the Parental Digital Consent Portal you do not need to provide additional information to the school counselor.

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following kiss-and-ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.

If a bus is delayed, parents/caregivers may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce bus delays of 30 minutes or more. Visit the Transportation Services contact webpage to see who to contact with specific questions.

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS:  HELP TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Fairhill PTA again will be working to support Fairhill families and our broader local community by collecting unused food purchased from the cafeteria (e.g., milk, string cheese) and/or unopened store bought food (e.g., crackers).

Our kids' role -> From the first day of school, kids are asked to leave food they may otherwise toss in the garbage and instead put it off in the Food for Others fridge in the cafeteria.

Our volunteers' role -> Once a week (Mondays or Tuesdays), we are asking for a volunteer to collect the food and drop it off at Food For Others (1 mile away).

Our collective Impact -> In addition to minimizing food waste, we are helping 75,000 Fairfax County (and Fairhill families) who are food insecure.  On a weekly basis last year, we collected hundreds of milk cartons, string cheese packets, crackers, yoghurts and more.

Sign up here to volunteer!  Questions????  Call/text//email Anika Marpaka (anikaamin@yahoo.comor 703 855 0500)

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Families that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive breakfast and lunch for their students at no cost.

Families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Look for the application in August, view criteria, and up-to-date information on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.

Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.
