October 17th, 2024
Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
Students and teachers quickly launched into a new week of learning after a long weekend. This week, students in 4th grade were exploring fractions and decimals while students in 6th grade were reviewing using division to convert fractions into decimals and percentages. Students in kindergarten were practicing their recognition of letters, letter sounds and correctly forming letters while writing. Third graders were digging into nonfiction reading and new adventures with the Benchmark curriculum.
The weather is finally cooperating and construction on the Futsal court has resumed! The blacktop will be closed until the project is complete. We can wait to see the new courts soon!
Spirit Wear has arrived! The items will be sorted and delivered to classrooms on Monday after school. Students should be able to bring home their orders by Tuesday. All FHES students are invited to wear their grade level colors on Friday, October 25th. Let's show our Falcon pride and make next Friday a colorful day!
Please consider recognizing an outstanding staff member at FHES through the FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards nominations. We would love to see many of the hard working and dedicated teachers and staff recognized in our school and beyond. Information on how to submit a nomination is below.
The PTA Reflections program is still open! If your student is looking for a way to express themselves through art, this is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their creativity. The theme this year is "Accepting Imperfection." Learn more about how to participate below.
Kindly,
Mr. Montaquila, Principal

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again. Our yearbook theme this year is “You Belong Here”.
Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap. Access Code: flinthill24 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook. We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.
Remember to Pre-Order your Yearbook! You wouldn’t want to miss out.

Make sure to order before it’s too late! Purchase at https://yearbookforever.com/#
Please upload an image by November 4th for use in our Veterans' Day Celebration on November 14th. We ask that photographs be of immediate family members to the FHES student only: Parents, Guardians, Grandparents, Siblings or Uncles/Aunts only.
*If you have sent in an image last year, we still have it! :) Thank you!

When: The Town of Vienna's 78th Annual Halloween Parade is Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at 7 p.m. on Maple Avenue
What: The FHES PTA is helping get the word out about Flint Hill Elementary School's annual tradition of marching in the Vienna Halloween Parade (more details here.
Our school has a long history of representing Falcon Pride in the this fun annual tradition that makes the Vienna community so great! Mr. Bechtle is helping to organize students who are interested in walking in the parade this year (see the permission slip form linked below) and reserved FHES a spot again this year.
Unlike in prior years, we haven't built out our float yet, and are looking for any creative builders who may be interested in helping.
Theme: This year the Vienna Parade theme is: ”Party Like it’s 1999!” The FHES theme this year is Toy Story.
How You Can Get Involved:
Help build the Float: E-mail president@fhespta.org and jjbechtle@fcps.edu to help out with the float! We will likely keep the float design very simple this year and looking for folks who are handy with basic design, painting and carpentry skill for a "hayride" type float with FHES signage.
Help donate items for the Float: We need bales of hay, basic building supplies, paint - consider donating any items to help go towards the float build!
March in the Parade: Complete the permission slip available here for your Falcons and return to the FHES front office. Students and their parents aer encouraged to use their imagination and come dressed up as their favorite Toy Story character. “To infinity and beyond!” If you come in a costume, we might ask you to ride on Flint Hill’s Hayride. Costumes are encouraged but not required. The more the merrier, any Halloween costume will work!
See additional important details included in the below permission slip!

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.
Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.
Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.
