Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
Students and teachers were enjoying learning all over Flint Hill this week!
On Monday, 2nd grade students from Ms. Kuykendall and Mrs. Radin's classes gathered in the courtyard to release their monarch butterflies. This was an exciting way for students to mark their studies of butterflies, their habits and migration patterns. We hope the butterflies have a safe flight on their migration to Mexico!
Wednesday was a great experience for students to bike, walk and roll to school. Ms. Garner and Ms. Coffey we thrilled to see so many students taking advantage of the good weather and physical activity opportunity. Way to go to all of our biking, walking and rolling Falcons!
Mr. Baker and I started a new project this week beginning with the 6th grade classes. With support from Mrs. Rankin, we are growing our library collection! Students select a book to donate to the library from a cart of books selected by Mrs. Rankin. Students then meet with the principal and assistant principal to talk about their book, what they enjoy about FHES and write their name on a "donated by" sticker in the front of each book. We are hoping to read and meet with every student by the end of the school year!
Don't forget about a few upcoming events! Our next PTA meeting will be on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 pm. First grade teachers and our school-based technology specialist, Ms. Stout, will join the meeting to share more about their current teaching and learning. Also, Pumpkin Bingo will be on Friday, October 25th! We hope to see you there!
I also want to share a big thank you to our PTA for helping FHES fund another round of projector installations. Now, most of our large classrooms have updated projectors and many our resource and specialist classrooms have updated projectors as well. Thank you for helping to invest in our classrooms and learning spaces!
Are you looking for a fun way to be involved with FHES and the PTA? See information below about how to volunteer to build and/or march in Town of Vienna Halloween Parade!
Also, please remember that schools will be closed for a school planning day on Monday, October 14th and school picture day is on Wednesday, October 23rd!
Kindly,
Mr. Montaquila, Principal
Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal
For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again. Our yearbook theme this year is “You Belong Here”.
Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap. Access Code: flinthill24 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook. We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.
Remember to Pre-Order your Yearbook! You wouldn’t want to miss out.

When: The Town of Vienna's 78th Annual Halloween Parade is Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at 7 p.m. on Maple Avenue
What: The FHES PTA is helping get the word out about Flint Hill Elementary School's annual tradition of marching in the Vienna Halloween Parade (more details here.
Our school has a long history of representing Falcon Pride in the this fun annual tradition that makes the Vienna community so great! Mr. Bechtle is helping to organize students who are interested in walking in the parade this year (see the permission slip form linked below) and reserved FHES a spot again this year.
Unlike in prior years, we haven't built out our float yet, and are looking for any creative builders who may be interested in helping.
Theme: This year the Vienna Parade theme is: ”Party Like it’s 1999!” The FHES theme this year is Toy Story.
How You Can Get Involved:
Help build the Float: E-mail president@fhespta.org and jjbechtle@fcps.edu to help out with the float! We will likely keep the float design very simple this year and looking for folks who are handy with basic design, painting and carpentry skill for a "hayride" type float with FHES signage.
Help donate items for the Float: We need bales of hay, basic building supplies, paint - consider donating any items to help go towards the float build!
March in the Parade: Complete the permission slip available here for your Falcons and return to the FHES front office. Students and their parents aer encouraged to use their imagination and come dressed up as their favorite Toy Story character. “To infinity and beyond!” If you come in a costume, we might ask you to ride on Flint Hill’s Hayride. Costumes are encouraged but not required. The more the merrier, any Halloween costume will work!
See additional important details included in the below permission slip!

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.
Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.
Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.
