Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

Thank you to all of the families and staff that helped to make the first 3-hour early release a successful, organized afternoon for students, staff and families. The rain dampened some of our plans, but 125 students were able to participate in a rotation of organized activities with peers and many teachers were able to complete mandatory training. Our next 3-hour early release day will be on Monday, October 28th. We will begin confirming dismissal selections with families again soon.

The installation of the FHES Futsal court has started! Crews began preparing the blacktop today and resurfacing will begin soon. The project is expected to last about 10 days. At the conclusion of the project, FHES will have a hard surface soccer court and an updated basketball court. Thank you to Vienna Youth Soccer and FCPS for this collaborative project that will benefit our students and community!

If you were not able to attend the AAP Parent Information meeting on Tuesday (9/24), information from the event has been posted on our website. See the message below for important referral deadlines and a link to the information on our website.

Due to anticipated weather, the PTA Community Mixer is postponed. Look out for a new date soon.

Mark your calendars for a few upcoming school closures and student holidays. All FCPS schools will be closed on Thursday, October 3rd for Rosh Hashanah. There will be no school for students on Friday, October 4th for a teacher workday. Schools will be closed again for a school planning day on Monday, October 14th.

Lastly, school picture day on Wednesday, October 23rd!

Kindly,

Mr. Montaquila, Principal

Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day - 10/9/24

Bike Walk Roll

National Bike, walk, and roll to school day is on Wednesday, October 9th. Students can participate by walking, riding a bike or rolling to school (scooters, roller blades, skateboards, etc...). Please remember to wear a helmet and choose a safe route for your journey!

Student participants will gather at the bike rack behind the gym beginning at 8:25 am to receive a small token for their participation.

We hope this fun event will encourage our student’s physical activity, safe paths to school and community engagement and hope you will join us!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Taylor Coffey, PE teacher, at tcoffey@fcps.edu.

FHES PTA Special Education Liaison Inclusion Chat

The FHES PTA special education liaison will host her first monthly “Inclusion Chat” on October 1, 2PM EST via Zoom (link).

Are you a parent whose child has been identified as needing services? A parent who isn’t certain if their child might need services? A parent with an IEP or 504 that is providing support? Please come! All are welcome to join this community!

Our goal is to strengthen relationships between parents of special needs, disabled, and neurodivergent children and teachers and staff who support them at FHES.

In this initial session, we will introduce ourselves and some of the members of the FHES team and chat about experiences in the special education space.

Futsal Court at FHES: Coming Soon!

Futsal Court

Preparations are beginning for our New Futsal Court!

Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) is working with FCPS and Flint Hill to resurface our blacktop area. This construction will last about 10 days depending on weather.
During this time our blacktop area will be closed to the public as the new hard surface for a soccer/basketball court is installed.

We look forward to sharing this new resource with our families and community in the next couple of weeks.

When a Student Should Stay Home From School

Telephone

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

FHES Family Handbook

FHES Logo

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.

Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!

As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE.  Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there.  Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification.
