Fall Is In The Air!

Dear Families

We have officially moved into fall, one of the most exciting times of the year in an elementary school! We want to remind you of two upcoming events in October to mark on your calendar.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: All parents will be offered a Parent-Teacher Conference by the end of Quarter 1, October 31st. Many teachers had sign-ups at Back-to-School Night or have sent sign-ups home in their newsletters. If you haven’t yet scheduled a conference, please contact your child's teacher to ensure you're signed up. These moments of connection between our teachers and families are vitally important. Thank you for your time and partnership.

Fall Festival: While every PTA event is a blast, the Fall Festival is one of our students' favorite events! For our new families, this fall celebration includes games, dinner, and most importantly, the Sixth Grade Fright Walk—a rite of passage for our sixth graders, who create a walk-through spooky house on our stage. Fall Festival is on Friday, October 25th.

All our best,

Ted & Maura

We're thrilled to announce our upcoming spirit night in partnership with Nando’s Peri-Peri and Barnes & Noble in Mosaic! Join us on October 9th from 4 pm to 8 pm for an evening of delicious food, great books, and community spirit. A portion of all sales during this event will directly benefit our school's programs. Enjoy a family meal at Nando’s Peri-Peri, then browse for your next favorite read at Barnes & Noble. It's a perfect opportunity to support community businesses while helping our school.

Keep an eye in our Tuesday folder for more information. Let's make this a night to remember – your participation helps fund field trips, playground equipment, teacher appreciation lunches, and more!

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS:  HELP TO MAKE BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Fairhill PTA again will be working to support Fairhill families and our broader local community by collecting unused food purchased from the cafeteria (e.g., milk, string cheese) and/or unopened store bought food (e.g., crackers).

Our kids' role -> From the first day of school, kids are asked to leave food they may otherwise toss in the garbage and instead put it off in the Food for Others fridge in the cafeteria.

Our volunteers' role -> Once a week (Mondays or Tuesdays), we are asking for a volunteer to collect the food and drop it off at Food For Others (1 mile away).

Our collective Impact -> In addition to minimizing food waste, we are helping 75,000 Fairfax County (and Fairhill families) who are food insecure.  On a weekly basis last year, we collected hundreds of milk cartons, string cheese packets, crackers, yoghurts and more.

Sign up here to volunteer!  Questions????  Call/text//email Anika Marpaka (anikaamin@yahoo.comor 703 855 0500)

SIBTEEN: An Exciting, In-person Workshop for Brothers and Sisters of Children with
Special Needs!

Attention FCPS parents!!! From the same people who brought you Sibshops, we are excited to introduce SibTeen!

SibTeen is a community-building group for Middle School siblings of children with disabilities. We have fun activities, both recreational and art-based, as well as discussion activities. It’s a unique opportunity for students to share about their lives and support each other while normalizing their life experiences. SibTeen is a place where participants will feel validated and understood and can build upon their community of support. And…. there will be food!

Families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits.
