September 20, 2024

Happy Friday Fairfax High Family and Friends,

As we wrap up another PAWSome week, I'm thrilled to share some of this week's highlights:

Homecoming Triumph

Our LIONS roared to victory at the Homecoming game, bringing home a thrilling win against Centreville! The student section was electric, the band's performance was outstanding, the choir sang our anthem with great pride, we celebrated our student Royalty, and we had an amazing time tailgating with our clubs prior to the game night kickoff. Congratulations to our team, our coaches, and our cheerleaders on a fantastic night!

Night of Tropical Bliss

The Homecoming dance, "A Night of Tropical Bliss," was a dazzling success! Students danced the night away under the palm trees, creating lasting memories.

Back to School Night: A Roaring Success!

Thank you to all the families who attended our Back-to-School Night event. This event was a great opportunity to connect with teachers and learn about your child's courses for the upcoming school year. One of our big FHS commitments this year is finding more ways to collaborate and communicate with our parents and families. Thank you to our instructional staff who is building partnerships each and every day in order to guarantee every student has a CHAMPION and every student is engaged in RIGOROUS learning opportunities.

PTSA and Principal's Coffee

Our first PTSA meeting and Principal's Coffee of the year was a wonderful success! Thank you to all who attended and shared your valuable insights, asked meaningful questions, and provided key feedback. Together WE focus on W.I.N. s (What's Important Now)

Celebrating Consistent Attendance

The Class of 2028 won the Attendance Challenge last week, demonstrating their commitment to school and learning. This week, we're raffling off amazing prizes to students who arrive on time, every day. Keep up the great work.

A Reminder: Stay Connected and Log In

As we finish the fifth week of school, I encourage parents to regularly check Schoology and ParentVue to monitor your student's progress and ensure they are on track in their courses.

Let's continue to make Fairfax High a place where students thrive and achieve their best!

Thank you for your PAWSitive Partnership,

Blue Star Welcome Week

Blue Star Welcome Week

A New American Tradition

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

Save the Date: Roar Roundup on November 4

Fairfax Lion Heads Logo

This school year, FHS is bringing back parent/teacher conferences! The "Roar Roundup" will be held on Monday, November 4th, from 8:30am-11:30am in the Field House. Parent/Guardians can check in with teachers for 3-5 minute conversations. More info will be available in the comings weeks.

September is Attendance Awareness Month

🤒 When Should a Student Should Stay Home from School?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit our website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Student Services Important Deadlines!

Pass/Fail Deadline

With parent/guardian approval, middle and high school students are given the option of taking one high school elective credit per school year on a pass-fail basis. For high school students, this may be applied to required health and physical education credits, world language credits, economics and personal finance requirements, and credits other than those required for English, social studies, mathematics, and laboratory science.

Students should discuss this option with their teacher and school counselor.

Please submit a Request for Pass-Fail Status form to the school counselor by Friday, September 27.

Expunge Deadline

In accordance with the Virginia Board of Education regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course.  Parents must make this request in writing no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course.  The form to make this request, along with the process for making the request, is available at:  Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School or through your student’s school counselor.  Parents are strongly advised to discuss this decision with their student’s school counselor and the impact of expunging a course on desired high school diploma type and standard and verified credit requirements.
