Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

Next week, Flint Hill will have its first of seven 3-hour early release Mondays. Thank you to our families for submitting and confirming their dismissal choice for Monday.

Today, students brought home a final confirmation sheet for their dismissal choice. You only need to complete this form if you are changing the choice you already shared with us. In order to provide organized and safe supervision for students we are asking families to please be thoughtful in their decisions. Excessive last-minute changes will complicate our ability to track and support students. If you are making a last-minute change, please notify the main office before 10:00 am on 9/23.

Please be aware that on Monday afternoon, we are expecting around 140 students to attend the after-dismissal supervision. These students will rotate to supervised activities in groups. If you do arrive before 3:35 pm for an early check-out, please be patient as we check-out your student with limited staffing during an irregular schedule.

For families who are dismissing at 12:35 pm, please be aware that the FHES playground will be closed until our regular dismissal time. Students in our after-dismissal supervision will use the playground and fields as part of our programming. Thank you for your understanding.

AAP Parent Information Meeting - 9/24/24 - 9:15 am

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development efforts and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners. FCPS offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-12. The continuum of services approach recognizes unique student needs and focuses on matching services, not labeling students.

A parent information meeting will be held at Flint Hill ES on September 24th at 9:15 am in the library. Mrs. Timm will provide information about levels of service, explain the screening processes, and answer questions about advanced academic services.

Eligibility decisions for Full-Time AAP services are made by the countywide central screening committee. Screening for Full-Time services occurs during specific screening cycles:

  • Fall screening is available for students who are new to FCPS since January.  The fall screening referral window is from the first day of school - October 15, 2024.
  • Spring screening is available for any Grade 2-7 FCPS-enrolled student. The spring screening referral window is from the first day of school - December 15, 2024.

FHES Playground - 9/23/24

FHES will continue to use the playground, fields and blacktop on Monday, September 23rd between 12:35 pm and 3:35 pm. For students and families who are dismissing at 12:35 pm on Monday, please do not linger in these areas as students in the after-dismissal program will use these spaces as part of their program. Thank you.

Immunizations Due by 9/30/24

Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school

You may check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to your school’s front office.

Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to your school’s front office, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:

  • A health care provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
  • A health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  • A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with their religious tenets or practices.

Find more information on immunizations.

Fueling Student Success: New Food Options Cooked up at FCPS

Students will have more than a dozen new options for lunch and breakfast in school cafeterias starting this week. New menu items were either favorites at last year’s food show — including Korean BBQ wings, sweet Thai chili wings, chicken tikka masala, and barbacoa street tacos — or were tested with student focus groups and tastings.

View our school menu to see all the new options and when they will become available.

When a Student Should Stay Home From School

Telephone

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

FHES Family Handbook

FHES Logo

Good communication between home and school is vital to a successful school experience for each child. Questions relating to your child should be directed to the classroom teacher. All teachers have voice mail and an e-mail address. The school has a web page that links directly to each teacher’s e-mail.

Each year, FCPS produces a Handbook for its FCPS families. It contains valuable information you may need throughout the year, including calendars, services, and special programs, the instructional program, and information about starting school. Flint Hill Elementary has produced a handbook that includes some additional notes that are important for our school community.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!

As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE.  Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there.  Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.
