Back To School Night Tomorrow!

Hello Fairhill Families!

We hope you are all having a wonderful week! We are so excited for Back to School Night tomorrow! Please see the schedule below:

  • 5:30 - 5:45: Specialists (cafeteria)
  • 6:00 - 6:30: Session 1 (classrooms)
  • 6:40 - 7:00: Session 2 (classrooms)

The specialist time (Art, Music, PE and Chinese) will be in a “conference style” setting in the cafeteria, where parents can mingle and engage with specialists and resource teachers as they see fit. Afterward, we will transition to Session 1. You will notice that Session 2 is shorter because some portions of the presentation will be the same for each grade level, so we will not repeat them. Please note that the evening will wrap up promptly at 7:00 PM.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Blue Star

Blue Star Welcome Week

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices.

Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024.

On Friday September 27, we will host a “Breakfast with Blue Star Tigers” reception before school from 8:30 - 9:05 a.m. in the cafeteria to welcome Fairhill’s military and Veteran families into our school community, to express our gratitude for their sacrifices, and share in our support.

We ask that each family bring one small breakfast item to share with others. We just ask that if you make your own you provide an ingredients list so that our families with allergies can choose safely. If you’d like join us that morning, please fill out this FORM and tell us what you’ll bring.

If a bus is delayed, parents/caregivers may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce bus delays of 30 minutes or more. Visit the Transportation Services contact webpage to see who to contact with specific questions.

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS:  HELP TO MAKE BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Fairhill PTA again will be working to support Fairhill families and our broader local community by collecting unused food purchased from the cafeteria (e.g., milk, string cheese) and/or unopened store bought food (e.g., crackers).

Our kids' role -> From the first day of school, kids are asked to leave food they may otherwise toss in the garbage and instead put it off in the Food for Others fridge in the cafeteria.

Our volunteers' role -> Once a week (Mondays or Tuesdays), we are asking for a volunteer to collect the food and drop it off at Food For Others (1 mile away).

Our collective Impact -> In addition to minimizing food waste, we are helping 75,000 Fairfax County (and Fairhill families) who are food insecure.  On a weekly basis last year, we collected hundreds of milk cartons, string cheese packets, crackers, yoghurts and more.

Sign up here to volunteer!  Questions????  Call/text//email Anika Marpaka (anikaamin@yahoo.comor 703 855 0500)

SIBTEEN: An Exciting, In-person Workshop for Brothers and Sisters of Children with
Special Needs!

Attention FCPS parents!!! From the same people who brought you Sibshops, we are excited to introduce SibTeen!

SibTeen is a community-building group for Middle School siblings of children with disabilities. We have fun activities, both recreational and art-based, as well as discussion activities. It’s a unique opportunity for students to share about their lives and support each other while normalizing their life experiences. SibTeen is a place where participants will feel validated and understood and can build upon their community of support. And…. there will be food!

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications

Families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Look for the application in August, view criteria, and up-to-date information on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.

Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.
