September 13, 2024

Greetings Fairfax High Family and Friends,

Homecoming Week was a ROARing event!  We celebrated school spirit with daily themes, cheered on our fall teams at the pep rally, danced the day away AttenDANCING, showcased our creativity in hallway decorating, and had a blast with Minute to Win It games at lunch. Who doesn't like to limbo at Lunch!

A special shoutout to our PAWSome students who have participated in all of these festive events.  Your dedication to our school values is truly inspiring.

Tonight, we will take to the streets with our spirited parade, we will cheer on our LIONS at the Homecoming game, we will be all smiles  at the student tailgate and the best part is we get to end the week with a "Night of Tropical Bliss" homecoming dance.

We are even more excited for next week as we have the opportunity to strengthen our parent partnerships. We hope to see everyone here for BTSN on Wednesday, September 18. Let's work together to keep the momentum going as we continue to make Fairfax High a place where students thrive and achieve their best. At FHS we are committed to strengthening connections, providing robust educational opportunities,  and always celebrating the transformational power off our school community.

The Glass Recycling Network (GRN)

Glass Recycling Club Collage

The Glass Recycling Network (GRN) is a student-run service organization that was founded in 2019. It was established after Fairfax County decided it would no longer accept glass in regular recycling bins. GRN has collected over 20,000 glass bottles and properly disposes of them in the designated glass only dumpsters located around the county.

GRN has multiple open leadership positions and is looking for volunteers to fill them, as well as families who are looking to do their part in keeping Fairfax clean, by donating their unwanted glass. They will hold an interest meeting on September 19th in Mrs. Hanapole's room, B110, where new members can be assigned roles in the club. If any additional information is needed you can contact the club at info.fhsglass@gmail.com; or club president Aidan Mullen at aidanmullen1717@gmail.com; or check the club's Instagram page at glassrecyclingnetwork_fhs

September is Attendance Awareness Month

🤒 When Should a Student Should Stay Home from School?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit our website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

All-Night Grad Announcement

Hi Parents of the Class of 2025,

My name is Sobhna Simpson, and I’m thrilled to be coordinating the All-Night Graduation Party for the Class of 2025. This event is a special opportunity to celebrate our seniors and ensure they have a fun and safe celebration as they mark this significant milestone.

To make this party a success, I’m looking for dedicated volunteers to join our planning committee. We currently have several key positions open, including:

  • Event Manager
  • Fundraising Chair
  • School Communications and Social Media Coordinator
  • Tickets and Event Access Manager

In addition to these roles, we’ll also need volunteers to help with specific events throughout the year, such as the Craft Fair and the Plastic Modelers Convention. Plus, we’ll need chaperones for the actual graduation event to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.

If you’re interested in taking on one of these roles, helping with an event, or know someone who might be, I would love to have you on board. Please reach me at ang@fairfaxptsa.org. Your participation would be greatly appreciated as we work together to create an unforgettable night for our graduates.

Looking forward to working with you all!
