Greetings, Team Langston Hughes:
The start of a new school year -- one that's filled with new beginnings, new friendships, and new opportunities for learning – is always an exciting time! Our Panthers are certainly off to a great start – “going for the GOLD!”
A few reminders…
- Students enter the building at 7:10 a.m. Classes start at 7:30 a.m. Here is our bell schedule for your review.
- Cell phones should be AWAY FOR THE DAY. If you need to reach your child, please contact the main office.
-
SOUTH LAKES’ FOOTBALL GAMES: If your student is attending a Varsity Football game on a Friday Night at a FCPS High School, he/she must be accompanied by an adult who supervises him/her for the duration of the event. If your student attempts to attend without at least one adult, he/she will be turned away at the ticket booth. Also, there are no backpacks/food/drink/athletic equipment allowed in the stadium. We love when our future high school students attend our games and hope they are good representatives of our community. Lastly, at the conclusion of the game, all spectators are expected to leave in a timely fashion.
- After-school activities and late busses start Monday, September 9th.
- Breakfast and lunch prices are as follows: breakfast: $1.75 and lunch: $3.50. We continue to offer self-serve salad bars for students on the cafeteria serving lines. In addition, we have two microwaves in our cafeteria and two snack machines (cash, apple pay) for student use.
-
Families applying for Free and Reduced-Price Meals have until Tuesday, October 1, 2024 to apply. Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees and Parktakes Online classes. Click here to complete the application. It is faster if you were to complete the online.
-
Parent Digital Consent: Parents/guardians must approve digital resources like YouTube and Quizlet each year before their child can use them. There are two ways to give your consent.
- Option 1: Complete FCPS Parent Digital Consent form online.
-
Parent Teacher Association: Our PTA meeting is Monday, September 9, 2024, at 7 p.m. in our library. We will vote for our PTA President. Click here to meet the candidates. If you were a PTA member last year, your membership expires September 30th. You may renew membership at our next meeting.
As always, thank you for your continued support! I hope to see you at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 19th.
Principal Mizell
