Dear Bailey’s ES Families,
We wrapped up our second week of a great start to the new school year! We are extremely proud of how our students, staff, and families have continued to come together to make this transition back to school smooth and successful. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm in our classrooms and the excitement on our students' faces as they explore new concepts and build on their skills. We’ve also been focusing on building a strong school community, with an emphasis on respect, responsibility, and kindness.
We want to say a special thank you to all the parents and guardians who have been so supportive during these first weeks. Your collaboration is vital in ensuring that our students thrive both academically and socially. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher and reach out if there’s anything we can do to support your family.
We hope you have a restful and enjoyable long holiday weekend! Don’t forget that school is closed on Monday, September 2nd in honor of Labor Day. We look forward to seeing everyone back at Bailey’s on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Early Release Mondays
Providing an excellent education to all students and meeting individual student needs requires appropriate planning time for teachers. This means teachers need a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with peers.
With that in mind, FCPS has developed a divisionwide plan for seven three-hour early release days (Mondays) for elementary students in the 2024-25 school year. Different elementary schools have different Early Release Monday dates.
Bailey’s ES will have seven 3-hour early release days on the dates listed below. Dismissal on these dates will begin at 12:45 p.m
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
To help plan for our school’s child care needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/qMureCQicM2R4zKm6 for each of your children who are enrolled at Bailey’s.
The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 16, 2024 and October 21, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit a form for each child. Staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student. This form was also sent to the email address we have on file. Please complete the form as soon as possible.
Transportation Patience and Safety
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.
If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2050 with any additional questions. For any concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.

Kiss and Ride
We know that many of our families will use Kiss & Ride for both arrival and dismissal. We appreciate your patience as our staff works to help your children each morning and afternoon. Here are a few tips that can make things run smoothly:
- Staff members will greet students in the “Kiss and Ride” line starting at 8:50 a.m. and ending at 9:00 a.m.
- Have your child sit on the right-hand passenger side and always exit on the right. Please practice this routine with your child.
- After 9:00 a.m., parents must park and walk students inside the building to the office for a tardy pass.
- Kiss and Ride pick-up runs from 3:35 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. Anyone picking up after 3:55 p.m. will need to go to the office to pick up students. They need to be listed on the emergency care card and have a valid ID.
-
Parents should stay in their cars during arrival and dismissal. There will be plenty of adults available to help children get in and out of cars.

2024 Student Rights and Responsibilities
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Monday, September 30.
You can submit questions online regarding the SR&R.
Safety Drills During the School Year
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.
Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your students before and after school lockdown drills.
⚠️ Know Our Security Terms
FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.
Watch this video to learn about safety terms including lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned.
If students, staff, or community members have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
Opt-Out Annual Notice
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.

FCPS 2023-2030 Strategic Plan
✨ 2023-30 Strategic Plan: Foundation of Four Pillars While the five goals of FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan focus on student success, the four pillars describe what FCPS must do well to reach our goals for all students:
- The first focus of the pillars is on teaching and learning. We want to make sure each and every student has access to excellent and inclusive learning environments, and that instruction meets students’ individual needs.
- The second pillar focuses on our connection with families and our communities. We cannot do this work alone. Strong partnerships are key to our students’ success.
- The third pillar is centered on our hiring and maintaining a world class, diverse workforce. We want to make sure our incredible employees have what they need to help our students thrive.
- The fourth and final pillar centers on how we bring this all together. We remain focused on creating a culture of equity, excellence, and accountability where data guides our decisions.

Counselor's Corner
Attendance
As we start the school year, your child being at school is critical for them to learn and build relationships with their teachers and peers. For Tier I attendance, we have two programs to encourage students to come to school.
Returning from last year, one of our programs is called HEY- Here every day, Yay! Each day that all students are at school a square is colored in on a 100s chart. Once a class meets 5, 10, 20, … days, does not have to be consecutive, that all students were at school the class will be recognized on the daily news show as well as receiving an incentive. If you child has an appointment during the school day, please send them to school prior to or bring them to school after the appointment so that they may help their class to have every student at school every day. We say “Yay!” as a part of this program because it truly is a celebration to have all students at school as much as possible.
The second program that is new this year, is called “Hip, Hip Hooray- We are all here today!” When all students enrolled in a class are at school, the classroom teacher or student with the attendance job will post a sign outside of the classroom that says “Hip, Hip, Hooray- We are all here today! Todos estamos aqui hoy!” Classes that have their “Hip, Hip Hooray” sign posted will receive a special shout out during the afternoon news. If you meet your child on the soccer field or are in the kiss-n-ride line at dismissal, listen to hear if your child’s class is acknowledged for all students being at school.
