Principal Message
Hello Lorton Station Families,
It is hard to believe that we will begin a new school year in a little over two weeks. We are getting ready to start our 2024-2025 school year and could not be more excited to welcome Lorton Station students back to school!
We hope you are enjoying the last bits of summer vacation and are looking forward to an exciting school year. I hope everyone has had time to relax over the summer and create new memories with family and friends.
School Supplies
We are excited to announce that Lorton Station has been able to purchase school supplies for all students this year. We have a few items on our website that we are asking parents to buy and share with their teachers.
First Day Arrival
The first day of school is Monday, August 19. Parents may walk their students to their classroom on the first day of school. Walkers and car riders can only enter the building at 9:00 AM. Please do not drop off your child before the start of school. The school day will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM. Doors will open for students to enter the building at 8:55 for breakfast and at 9:00 for students going directly to their classrooms. Dismissal is at 4:00. Bus riders enter/exit the building at door #1, walkers enter/exit at door #2, and kiss-and-ride students enter/exit at door #8.
Food and Nutrition
I am excited to announce that Lorton Station will participate in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) meal program in the school year 2023-2024. CEP allows all students at Lorton Station to automatically receive breakfast and lunch at no cost every day of the school year (even if the student would not qualify for free meals).
Transportation
Visit the Transportation page for more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System. Transportation information will load in SIS StudentVUE and ParentVUE under Student Info > Transportation. You can only see this information if you log on via the website, not the app.
Please arrive at your bus stop early the first week of school to ensure you get the bus as bus drivers work out new routes this year. Please exercise patience at the end of the day because the bus may run late at dismissal. A parent or caregiver must meet kindergarten students at the bus stop in the afternoon.
Kiss and Ride
Please follow the car path in the school's parking lot for student drop-off and pick-up. Drivers, please stay in your cars. Children must exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. If your children need assistance, a staff member will help. We want to make sure we keep traffic moving. Afternoon pick-up will be in the exact location as morning drop-off. If your student uses a car for transportation, please use Kiss & Ride.
ParentVue
The SIS (Student Information System) ParentVue account credential is the FCPS secure solution for providing parents access to school information about their FCPS children. With these credentials (username and password), parents can learn about your child's attendance, class performance, and demographic data on the Parent SIS App. It also acts as a login for several other FCPS Applications that help you support your child, including Schoology, HereComes-the-Bus App, the annual ParentDigitalConsent, and MySchool Bucks. Updates now allow parents to update emergency information, and health information and sign various forms/permissions via the Online Verification (OVU). Please make sure we have your correct email on file.
Parents, please sign up for News You Choose to keep up-to-date on what is happening at Lorton Station Elementary.
Your proud principals,
Francis Legagneur, Dawn Champion, Karyn Kayes
SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST
Early Release Monday
Please draw your attention to the early release Monday dates since they are new this year. Lorton Station will release at 1:00 pm these days. Please note that not all schools will have the same dates, so if you happen to have another child attending a school outside of the Hayfield Pyramid, these dates might differ. A full list of schools can be found HERE.
We also wanted to share with you the FCPS 2024-25 school year calendar as this will be helpful for planning trips and appointments. With attendance in mind, please do your best to align vacations and appointments to days students already have off of school.

Update Your Child’s Immunizations and Records
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.
