Congratulations to Mrs. McAlevy on this great accomplishment. We are so proud and grateful for all she does for our students, families and MVHS community.
New FCPS Cellphone Policy
MV families –
As you may have seen, FCPS rolled out a new Cellphone Policy, with specific expectations for all students. To summarize the high school (grades 9-12) expectations:
-
Grades 9-12:
- Phones must be silenced and put away during all instructional periods.
- Cell phones may be used on campus before the first bell, after the last bell, during passing periods, and lunches.
- Phone accessories are also to be silenced and away when phone use is prohibited. Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
- Phones can be stored in a locker or backpack during the day. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency.
- With the approval of the principal or their designee, teachers may allow usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool; however, one-to-one FCPS devices should meet most needs.
- If your student needs access to their phone for medical accommodations, it is important to note that the current cell phone policy and guidelines have not changed. Therefore, students who currently require access to a cell phone or another personally owned device for medical reasons, or an accommodation to access the curriculum and make progress to their individualized goals, will continue to have such access.

Majors Gear-Up
August 15, 2024 - from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Majors Gear Up is an open house event where students can pick up their laptops and access their lockers, and parents and students can speak with representatives from various school clubs and organizations and tour the building.
Schedules will be available through StudentVUE and ParentVUE, and our counselors will be on hand to answer questions.
We’ll also have assistance available if you need help completing the various forms required and requested by FCPS.
LOCKER REQUESTS: MVHS does not automatically assign lockers to all students for the school year. If you would like to have a locker assigned to you, please complete this form, and your subschool will assign you a locker and provide you with the correct combination for the lock. NOTE: Students who submit their locker requests by August 12 will have access to their lockers at Majors Gear Up on August 15. Please remember that all items in your locker are your responsibility; do not provide your locker combination to anyone else or share lockers with other students.
We need student volunteers! We will need assistance during Majors Gear Up in multiple forms, such as building tours, hallway assistance (directions, questions, etc.), and interpreting.
If you can help, please use this link to sign up.
Thank you to the Community
Thank you to all who attended yesterday’s MV Pyramid Resource Fun Fair. A special thank you to the parent volunteers who donated their time and/or resources to support students, families, and our community. We are still in need of school supply donations, especially backpacks. Please contact jablair@fcps.edu if you would like to contribute, or drop off donations at the main office.
Student Services Information
Beginning Thursday, August 15, 2024 all students and parents will have access to class schedules in SIS via StudentVUE and ParentVUE. SIS (Student Information System) is the application that gives families access to attendance, class performance, and demographic data. Please reach out to Student Services for support with getting your SIS Parent account.
Prior to the first day of school, school counselors may be in contact with students regarding potential scheduling conflicts between now and the start of school. Counselors will also be available in G100 the first week of school 8/19 - 8/21 to correct errors such as missing courses, incomplete schedules and to support students with requests such as an increased rigor.
Currently, our school counselors are working hard to register new families, support our seniors with college applications and correct scheduling errors. Therefore, during the first few days of school, counselors will only meet with students who have a scheduling error.
Specific teacher requests or requests for a different teacher are not permitted. Students who wish to make an elective change because they are no longer interested in that electrive may make those requests during our elective change window. Our elective change window is August 22nd - August 29th.
Important Dates for Scheduling
-
August 15: Student Schedules will be available in SIS and for pick up at Orientation and Majors Gear Up.
-
August 19 - 21: Schedule Adjustments, counselors will be available to adjust schedules with errors and/or requests for an increase in rigor.
-
August 22 - August 29: School counselors will make requested elective changes based on space availability.
