Our Admin Team Superheroes are hard at work getting ready for the new school year!

July 26, 2024

Greetings Fairfax Families and HAPPY FRIDAY,

Just like that, we are back every Friday with amazing updates and opportunities to connect with our Fairfax Families! I hope your summer has been filled with moments to reflect, relax, and rejuvenate. Each Friday, we will share community activities, events, and highlights in our weekly newsletter.

One of our primary school goals is to ensure every Lion has opportunities to engage in rigorous coursework and advanced opportunities. We would love to take a moment and give a ROARing CONGRATULATIONS to our AP Scholars of 2023-2024. We had 891 students take AP courses last year, we administered 2,132 exams in the Spring, and we increased our pass performance rate of earning a 3 or higher on exams by 7.5%.  We are excited to build upon this PAWSome performance as we elevate the 6,142 enrollees in the upcoming school year who are taking one or more Honors, AP, and DE courses. Our CTE course enrollments continue to increase, and we celebrate their commitment to career, industry, and innovation.

Events on campus will begin next week. Turn the beat around as band camp begins on July 29. Fall sports will begin on August 5. Lions on the Rise is August 6-8.

The SCHOOL YEAR IS LOADING, and we cannot wait to see our students and families return. Please mark your calendars for "FEAR THE ROAR" Open House Jam on August 15!

Yours in Partnership,

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Families that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive breakfast and lunch for their students at no cost.

Families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Look for the application in August, view criteria, and up-to-date information on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.

Support Your Child's Success by Checking SIS ParentVue

Parents and caregivers can view important information in SIS ParentVUE such as student attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores. Watch this video if you need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account

You will keep the same SIS ParentVUE account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same account. An app is also available for Apple and Android devices.

If you already have an account, be sure to update your phone numbers and/or email addresses (in the Parent/Guardian section), so your child’s school can send you important information. Get more information on SIS ParentVUE.

For those families new to FCPS and/or FHS, information on how to sign up will be available at our Open House Jam on August 15th.

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades. Visit FCPS’ immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines. Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their child's immunization record to ensure they have received these required immunizations. Get more details on student immunization requirements.

Back-to-School Immunization Clinics

The Fairfax County Health Department is offering appointments to all Fairfax County students who need immunizations. Appointments are limited. View a schedule of the clinics.
