News and Announcements July 25th Edition

Majors achieve and thrive together with purpose and pride!

Principal’s Message

Happy Summer 2024 Majors!  I cannot put into words how excited I am to be a part of this amazing Mt. Vernon community.   With every passing day this summer, I felt the passion, commitment and overall “love” for the MVHS community.  I am so excited to get this school year started so that I can begin to meet our incredible students, staff and families!

Now that we got through the July summer planning, training, and administrivia, I am going to begin to schedule community “meet and greets” as a way to informally get to know one another.  Stay tuned for dates, times and locations.

I hope that all of you are getting some time to relax this summer before school begins in August.  Stay safe and enjoy your time with friends and family!

Majors Gear-Up

August 15th - 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Majors Gear Up is an open house event where students can pick up their laptops and access their lockers, and parents and students can speak with representatives from various school clubs and organizations and tour the building.

Schedules will be available through StudentVUE and ParentVUE, and our counselors will be on hand to answer questions.

We’ll also have assistance available if you need help completing the various forms required and requested by FCPS.

LOCKER REQUESTS:  MVHS does not automatically assign lockers to all students for the  school year.  If you would like to have a locker assigned to you, please complete this form, and your subschool will assign you a locker and provide you with the correct combination for the lock. NOTE: Students who submit their locker requests by August 12 will have access to their lockers at Majors Gear Up on August 15.  Please remember that all items in your locker are your responsibility; do not provide your locker combination to anyone else or share lockers with other students.

We need student volunteers!  We will need assistance during Majors Gear Up in multiple forms, such as building tours, hallway assistance (directions, questions, etc.), and interpreting.

If you can help, please use this link to sign up.

MANDATORY Immunizations for Public School Attendance

From Fairfax County Public Schools

Dear FCPS Families,

In Virginia, it's required by law for students to have certain immunizations to attend school. This is supported by guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Virginia Department of Health, and FCPS Regulation 2101.

Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.  You can check your child’s immunization compliance by accessing ParentVUE

Families of students with incomplete immunization records need to provide acceptable proof of immunization to their child's school as soon as possible. You can find the list of required immunizations on the General Registration Immunizations webpage.

If your child’s immunizations are incomplete, here's what you need to do:

  1. Get your child’s immunization record from one of these places:
  • Request immunization records for free through the Virginia Immunization Information System (VIIS).
  • If your child was immunized outside Virginia, get records from those states’ systems.
  • Request records from your healthcare provider. Some may charge for copies.
  • Submit your child’s immunization record to your child’s school.
  • Families should submit their child’s completed immunization records before Monday, September 30, 2024.

Please visit FCPS’ website for more information. If you would like to speak with an FCPS staff member, please leave a message at one of the phone numbers below. Thank you for supporting our students' health and well-being.
