From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

Happy Summertime Laurel Hill Families!  We hope you are having lots of summer adventures and relaxing in the sun.  The sun is definitely sharing its glow this season.  We are gearing up for a fantastic school year.  Let the countdown to our first day begin!

First, we are pleased to share that we are ready to kick off a fantastic school year with familiar teacher faces and several new ones too. If you are interested in supporting our 2024-2025 school year as a parent volunteer, PTA officer or a café hostess please reach out with the contact information below.

Secondly, we have a unique opportunity for two parents from our school community to serve on the FCPS Family Vision group with our superintendent, Dr. Reid.  This program is designed to foster a collaborative environment where diverse families can engage directly with Dr. Reid on important issues that impact student success. The FCPS Family Vision Group brings communities together to discuss and achieve the goals of the 2023-2030 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes excellence, equity, and opportunity for all students.  If you are interested in representing Laurel Hill please email Addison Smith at ajsmith2@fcps.edu.

Please be on the lookout for new students in the neighborhood and encourage them to make a registration appointment by calling the school (703-551-5300) or emailing Sarah Orlick (scorlick@fcps.edu).

August 12: Kinder popsicles on the playground, 4-5 pm

August 15: Open House, 3-5 pm

August 19: School starts!

August 30 and Sept. 3: Labor day holiday

September 18: Back to school night, 6-8 pm

September 27: Screen on the Green PTA event

Kindergarteners are invited to come and meet new friends on August 12 from 4-5 pm!  PTA spirit wear will also be available for purchase.  Please see the PTA website for more information.

Open House:  Thursday, August 15

Teacher names will be available on SIS Parent Vue accounts approximately a week before school starts and will be posted outside immediately prior to Open House.  Come see your classroom, meet your teacher, and drop off your supplies!

Last name M-Z Open House:  4:00-5:00 pm

This year Laurel Hill will participate in the Girls on the Run (GOTR) fall season! Coach Amanda Fioravanti will once again lead our GOTR team in preparation for the fall 5K. Please save the dates below. We have yet to receive information for the day of the 5K.

Registration Opens: August 19 - September 17

Late Registration: September 19 - September 27

Fall Season Begins: September 23

We will keep you informed and share all pertinent information as we receive it.
