Dear Bucknell Families,

As summer days stretch on, we at Bucknell Elementary can't help but get excited for the new school year! We know you're busy making memories with your children, but we wanted to give you a heads-up on some upcoming events to help ease the transition back to school in August.

Mark Your Calendars!

• Kindergarten Playdate: Starting school for the first time can feel like a big adventure! To help our littlest learners feel comfortable, we'll be hosting two Kindergarten Playdates on July 26^th from 2pm – 3pm and August 12^th from 5pm – 6pm at Bucknell’s playground. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to meet their classmates in a relaxed setting, meet their new teachers, and make new friends.
• Welcome Back Events: Throughout the month of August, we'll be hosting a variety of events to welcome all our families back to school!
• Welcome Walks – August 14^th from 4pm – 6pm: Staff will be visiting the homes of their students to say hello!
• Back to Bucknell – Thursday August 15^th from 3:30pm – 6:30pm: Students and families will be able to meet your child's teacher and explore the classroom. In addition, we will have a Community Block Party on the blacktop filled with fun activities, games, and food for the whole family.

In the meantime, here are some ways to prepare for the new school year:

• Read with your children: We’re encouraging summer reading to keep those reading skills sharp. Please try and read with your children at least 20 minutes a day.
• Practice routines: As summer winds down, start to re-establish a bedtime routine that will help your child adjust to the earlier wake-up times of the school year.
• Label belongings: Help your child practice labeling their backpacks, water bottles, and other school supplies.

We're here to make the back-to-school transition as smooth as possible. Don't hesitate to reach out to the school office with any questions you may have.

A medida que avanzan los días de verano, ¡en Bucknell Elementary no podemos evitar emocionarnos por el nuevo año escolar! Sabemos que está ocupado creando recuerdos con sus hijos, pero queríamos informarle sobre algunos de los próximos eventos para ayudar a facilitar la transición de regreso a la escuela en agosto.

• Kindergarten Playdate: ¡Comenzar la escuela por primera vez puede parecer una gran aventura! Para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes más pequeños a sentirse cómodos, organizaremos dos citas de juego de jardín de infantes el 26 de julio de 2 p.m. a 3 p.m. y el 12 de agosto de 5 p.m. a 6 p.m. en el patio de recreo de Bucknell. Esta es una oportunidad fantástica para que su hijo conozca a sus compañeros de clase en un ambiente relajado, conozca a sus nuevos maestros y haga nuevos amigos.

Bucknell ES Meeting with Superintendent Dr. Reid - Tues., July 16th at 5:30pm in the Cafeteria

You are invited to join Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid for a community conversation regarding the Department of Education (DOE) grant application to support the establishment of a Montessori program at Bucknell ES.  This is an opportunity to share your questions or concerns about the recent process, and to hear feedback about future hopes and dreams for Bucknell.  Language interpretation and childcare will be available. To help us plan, we are asking that you please complete this form. However, registration is not required. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, July 16th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm in the cafeteria.

Kindergarten Playdates! July 26th and August 12th 

We're excited to welcome our rising Kindergarten students to join us for Kindergarten Playdates. The playdates will be at the Bucknell playground. This is an opportunity for students and families to meet the Kindergarten teachers, families to connect with one another, and for students to connect with one another.  We will also have popsicles! Please save the dates below:

• July 26th 2pm - 3pm 
• August 12th 5pm - 6pm

Our August dates have been finalized and we’re excited for the start of our new school year! Please make sure to mark your calendars for all of our Back to School Events! Please see below.

Monday, August 12^th – All families will receive an email from your child’s teacher introducing themselves and inviting you to the week’s events

Wednesday, August 14^th – 4pm – 6pm – We will continue our yearly Welcome Walks! This is an opportunity for our staff to come to you! We will visit your homes to say hello to our students! If you will not be home, please let your child’s teacher know!

Thursday, August 15^th 3:30pm – 6:30pm – You’re invited to Back to Bucknell! This will be an orientation and community block party. During this time you can visit your child’s classroom, bring school supplies, and visit the specialist teachers! Afterwards, head out to the blacktop for food, music, and a good time welcoming everyone back for a new school year!
