Letter from the Principal

Dear GBE Families,

The last day of school is here! This year has been filled with incredible memories and invaluable growth for both our students and our school community. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every family for your unwavering support, dedication, and partnership in your child's education. Your involvement has not only enriched their learning experience but has also strengthened the bonds within our GBE family. Our achievement data continues to show incredible progress and we made significant improvement to our chronic absenteeism rate! This data further demonstrates the incredible work and dedication of our families and staff!

As we look back on the memories created, let us also look forward to an exciting future at GBE! The lessons learned will empower our students to reach greater heights and embrace the challenges that await them in the future. GBE and our PTA are working on ways to continue seeing our school soar! I encourage families to reach out to the PTA to get connected to this exciting work! You can find more PTA information by clicking here

We will miss our students moving on next school year. We wish the best for our sixth graders and our students moving over the summer. You’ve each made an impact at GBE!

We have several staff also moving on from GBE next school year. We wish the best to the following:

Annemarie Allen                              Wilson Hill

Shimaliya Aurora                             Stacy LaPlaca

Maria Baptiste-Petrak                      Leslee Leary

Keoni Chavez                                   Laura Shepherd

We will miss you all and thank you for your service at GBE!

Before we part ways for the summer break, let us carry with us the cherished moments, friendships, and knowledge gained. We are thrilled that 93% of our GBE staff is returning to continue serving this incredible school community next school year! I wish you all a rejuvenating and joyful summer filled with time spent with loved ones. Thank you once again for your unwavering commitment to our school community. Together, we have made this year one to remember, and I eagerly anticipate the adventures that await us in the next academic year. We will be sharing more information over the summer for our back to school events! We can’t wait to see you again!

Sincerely,

Dave Pietzman, NBCT

Annemarie Allen                              Wilson Hill

Shimaliya Aurora                             Stacy LaPlaca

Maria Baptiste-Petrak                      Leslee Leary

Keoni Chavez                                   Laura Shepherd

Dave Pietzman, NBCT

Support Your Child's Success in SIS ParentVue

Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for your FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. An app is also available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information on ParentVUE.

📝 Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 TestsVirginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.
