Grad Walk 2024

May 31, 2024

Happy Friday Fairfax Family! The Countdown is On!

This week marks a bittersweet milestone for Fairfax High School.  Our amazing Class of 2024 has taken their final exams, shared some emotional goodbyes as they revisited their elementary and middle schools, and celebrated their achievements at the Senior Awards ceremony.  During our graduation walk we took over 300 Seniors back to their schools to "walk the halls" and experience both nostalgia and gratitude. We recognized 31 scholar athletes who will continue their athletic journey during our NCAA Recognition Ceremony. We also hosted our career transition ceremony that celebrated 9 graduates who are moving into the work force and will continue their career training. We are filled with pride for their dedication, and we are excited for the incredible things they'll accomplish next. We will see you at GRADUATION ON JUNE 4!

The celebrations didn't stop there. This week was also a whirlwind of activity for our underclassmen. We wrapped up SOL testing, giving everyone a well-deserved sigh of relief, and also celebrate a magnitude of growth and success. We then hosted a fabulous field day experience, filled with fun and laughter for all our students. Finally, we recognized the incredible achievements of our multi-lingual learners with a special awards ceremony.

What a fantastic week of farewells, fun, and ALL THINGS FAIRFAX!

Thank you for your partnership,

She is a native New Yorker and completed her undergraduate degree in Spanish and Italian secondary education at Hofstra University. Ms. Ciccarello earned a master’s degree in special education from Loyola Marymount University and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Fordham University. She has called Virginia home for the past 11 years and is coming to Fairfax High School from Prince William County, where she served in a variety of roles, most recently as assistant principal at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, where she supervised their Special Education department.

Prior to serving in the assistant principal role at Hylton, Ms. Ciccarello was an assistant principal at Independence Nontraditional School. She also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in special education for the University of Valley Forge. Ms. Ciccarello is passionate about serving students of all abilities and backgrounds and helping them to achieve their potential. She feels strongly about partnering alongside educators to ensure that students are learning in the best environment with the right supports and relationships to help them succeed. Outside of her life in education, Ms. Ciccarello enjoys spending time outside, reading, cooking, and chasing after her 4-year-old son! She is thrilled to be joining the Fairfax High School team, and excited to connect and collaborate with our community.

FHS Testing Calendar for June

Testing Days June 2024

Students will be taking SOL tests and digital AP exams on their FCPS-issued Chromebooks. To minimize issues on exam day:

  • It is critical that ALL students bring their Chromebooks FULLY CHARGED.
  • Each student should also have their own power cord as the school does not have extras to lend.
  • Students will receive their testing schedule a week before their exam.
  • PLEASE make sure students are diligent about checking their SCHOOL email (@fcpsschools.net account).

Thank you for your help in ensuring your student is prepared to do their best on their exams!

Visit our school website to view the full testing calendar. Click here to download a PDF version: 2024 Spring Exam Schedule.pdf

Student Google Accounts: Action Needed

Google Workspace

Fairfax students -

If you are preparing to graduate or leave FCPS for any reason, it’s important to know that your Google Workspace account will be automatically deactivated once you are no longer actively enrolled in FCPS. This process happens during the summer, shortly after the end of the school year.  Once your account is deactivated, you will no longer be able to login to your FCPS Google Drive or access your FCPS Gmail.

If you will no longer be an FCPS student after this school year, download or export any files you wish to keep before June 12th, 2024. The download process of files can take several days, so please make sure to give yourself plenty of time.

This year students have the option to use Google Takeout to export their files. Visit Google’s directions here: How to download your Google data using Takeout. It’s important to know that you will only be able to export files for which you are the owner.

If you’d prefer to manually select files from your Drive to download, follow the Downloading Your Data instructions on the Google Workspace Information for Students and Parents page of the FCPS website.

Please work with the tech support team at FHS if you have questions.

Schedule Change Deadline is JUNE 7

  • Last day to make changes to schedules is Friday, June 7. Please reach out to your child’s school counselor if you have any questions.
  • FCPS will administer the PSAT/NMSQT (grades 10-11) and SAT School Day (grade 12) on October 9, 2024. Parents/guardians have a deadline of Monday, August 5, 2024, to return input and consent forms for new or amended College Board testing accommodations (PSAT/NMSQT and SAT School Day) or one-time EL supports (SAT School Day only). Please look out for specific information next week.

Class of 2025 Senior Portraits

Photo session with graduates

CLASS OF 2025!

Believe it or not, it’s time to begin taking your senior portraits! We always begin while you’re still juniors because there are so many of you to photograph, and unlike underclassmen portraits, these are more of a photoshoot and take additional time. You can take your yearbook photo for free, or if you would like several outfit changes, pay a small fee for more time with the photographer.

A new batch of dates have opened up for next week! JUNE 6 & 7, and JUNE 10 & 11 are now available to be booked. Times are from 3pm-8pm and are scheduled during the short days following exams, so you have time to go home and get ready before you return to school.

There will be additional dates in both July, August, and September that will open after the June dates have passed, but those are our busiest times and become booked very quickly.

Caps and gowns and formal attire—both tuxedos and drapes—will be provided. If you’d rather wear something gender-neutral for your formal photo, you may wear an all-black sweater, a solid-black button down, or a formal, all-black top of your choosing. While black and white have been popular choices for religious head coverings and clothing in the formal photo, we welcome colors of your choosing.

Please click the link below to schedule. If you have any questions, please email Mr. David Greene at dtgreene@fcps.edu. But note, however, that scheduling and rescheduling information should be directed to the photo studio using the customer care contact information below.

We're excited to get started and we look forward to capturing fantastic images and memories for the Class of 2025!

FCPS Budget

2025 Budget graphic

School Board Votes to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025 Approved Budget

The Fairfax County School Board voted to adopt Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Approved Budget at their last board meeting. The FY 2025 Approved Budget totals $3.7 billion — a net increase of $233.2 million or 6.6% over the previous year.

The FY 2025 Approved Budget focuses on providing educational excellence for all students and ensuring that employees’ hard work and dedication are acknowledged through competitive compensation. Both of these efforts fully align with the FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

Nearly 86% of the Approved Budget is targeted at instruction. Key budget highlights include funding for a 4% compensation increase for all employees; maintaining existing class size formulas and providing necessary support to all students; and expanding athletics offerings, additional athletic trainers, and enhanced stipends for fine and performing arts.
